89:1
وَٱلۡفَجۡرِ wal-fajri By the dawn ١
wal-fajri
— Transliteration
By the dawn

89:2
وَلَيَالٍ walayalin And the nights عَشۡرٖ ashrin ten ٢
walayalin ashrin
— Transliteration
By the ten nights (i.e. the first ten days of the month of Dhul-Hijjah)

وَٱلشَّفۡعِ wal-shaf'i And the even وَٱلۡوَتۡرِ wal-watri and the odd ٣
wal-shaf'i wal-watri
— Transliteration
And by the even and the odd (of all the creations of Allah)

89:4
وَٱلَّيۡلِ wa-al-layli And the night إِذَا idha when يَسۡرِ yasri it passes ٤
wa-al-layli idha yasri
— Transliteration
And by the night when it departs

89:5
هَلۡ hal Is فِي fi in ذَٰلِكَ dhalika that قَسَمٞ qasamun (not) an oath لِّذِي lidhi for those حِجۡرٍ hij'rin who understand? ٥
hal fi dhalika qasamun lidhi hij'rin
— Transliteration
There is indeed in them (the above oaths) sufficient proofs for men of understanding (and that, they should avoid all kinds of sins and disbeliefs, etc)

89:6
أَلَمۡ alam Did not تَرَ tara you see كَيۡفَ kayfa how فَعَلَ fa'ala dealt رَبُّكَ rabbuka your Lord بِعَادٍ bi'adin with Aad ٦
alam tara kayfa fa'ala rabbuka bi'adin
— Transliteration
Did you (O Muhammad (Peace be upon him)) not see (thought) how your Lord dealt with 'Ad (people)

89:7
إِرَمَ irama Iram ذَاتِ dhati possessors (of) ٱلۡعِمَادِ al-'imadi lofty pillars ٧
irama dhati al-'imadi
— Transliteration
Who were very tall like lofty pillars

89:8
ٱلَّتِي allati Which لَمۡ lam not يُخۡلَقۡ yukh'laq had been created مِثۡلُهَا mith'luha like them فِي fi in ٱلۡبِلَٰدِ al-biladi the cities ٨
allati lam yukh'laq mith'luha fi al-biladi
— Transliteration
The like of which were not created in the land

89:9
وَثَمُودَ wathamuda And Thamud ٱلَّذِينَ alladhina who جَابُواْ jabu carved out ٱلصَّخۡرَ al-sakhra the rocks بِٱلۡوَادِ bil-wadi in the valley ٩
wathamuda alladhina jabu al-sakhra bil-wadi
— Transliteration
And (with) Thamud (people), who cut (hewed) out rocks in the valley (to make dwellings)

89:10
وَفِرۡعَوۡنَ wafir'awna And Firaun ذِي dhi owner of ٱلۡأَوۡتَادِ al-awtadi stakes? ١٠
wafir'awna dhi al-awtadi
— Transliteration
And (with) Fir'aun (Pharaoh), who had pegs (who used to torture men by binding them to pegs)
