4:1
يَٰٓأَيُّهَا yaayyuha O ٱلنَّاسُ al-nasu mankind! ٱتَّقُواْ ittaqu Fear رَبَّكُمُ rabbakumu your Lord ٱلَّذِي alladhi the One Who خَلَقَكُم khalaqakum created you مِّن min from نَّفۡسٖ nafsin a soul وَٰحِدَةٖ wahidatin single وَخَلَقَ wakhalaqa and created مِنۡهَا min'ha from it زَوۡجَهَا zawjaha its mate وَبَثَّ wabatha and dispersed مِنۡهُمَا min'huma from both of them رِجَالٗا rijalan men كَثِيرٗا kathiran many وَنِسَآءٗۚ wanisaan and women وَٱتَّقُواْ wa-ittaqu And fear ٱللَّهَ al-laha Allah ٱلَّذِي alladhi (through) Whom تَسَآءَلُونَ tasaaluna you ask بِهِۦ bihi [with it] وَٱلۡأَرۡحَامَۚ wal-arhama and the wombs إِنَّ inna Indeed ٱللَّهَ al-laha Allah كَانَ kana is عَلَيۡكُمۡ alaykum over you رَقِيبٗا raqiban EverWatchful ١
yaayyuha al-nasu ittaqu rabbakumu alladhi khalaqakum min nafsin wahidatin wakhalaqa min'ha zawjaha wabatha min'huma rijalan kathiran wanisaan wa-ittaqu al-laha alladhi tasaaluna bihi wal-arhama inna al-laha kana alaykum raqiban
— Transliteration

4:2
وَءَاتُواْ waatu And give ٱلۡيَتَٰمَىٰٓ al-yatama (to) the orphans أَمۡوَٰلَهُمۡۖ amwalahum their wealth وَلَا wala and (do) not تَتَبَدَّلُواْ tatabaddalu exchange ٱلۡخَبِيثَ al-khabitha the bad بِٱلطَّيِّبِۖ bil-tayibi with the good وَلَا wala and (do) not تَأۡكُلُوٓاْ takulu consume أَمۡوَٰلَهُمۡ amwalahum their wealth إِلَىٰٓ ila with أَمۡوَٰلِكُمۡۚ amwalikum your wealth إِنَّهُۥ innahu Indeed it كَانَ kana is حُوبٗا huban a sin كَبِيرٗا kabiran great ٢
waatu al-yatama amwalahum wala tatabaddalu al-khabitha bil-tayibi wala takulu amwalahum ila amwalikum innahu kana huban kabiran
— Transliteration

4:3
وَإِنۡ wa-in And if خِفۡتُمۡ khif'tum you fear أَلَّا alla that not تُقۡسِطُواْ tuq'situ you will be able to do justice فِي fi with ٱلۡيَتَٰمَىٰ al-yatama the orphans فَٱنكِحُواْ fa-inkihu then marry مَا ma what طَابَ taba seems suitable لَكُم lakum to you مِّنَ mina from ٱلنِّسَآءِ al-nisai the women مَثۡنَىٰ mathna two وَثُلَٰثَ wathulatha or three وَرُبَٰعَۖ waruba'a or four فَإِنۡ fa-in But if خِفۡتُمۡ khif'tum you fear أَلَّا alla that not تَعۡدِلُواْ ta'dilu you can do justice فَوَٰحِدَةً fawahidatan then (marry) one أَوۡ aw or مَا ma what مَلَكَتۡ malakat possesses أَيۡمَٰنُكُمۡۚ aymanukum your right hand ذَٰلِكَ dhalika That أَدۡنَىٰٓ adna (is) more appropriate أَلَّا alla that (may) not تَعُولُواْ ta'ulu you oppress ٣
wa-in khif'tum alla tuq'situ fi al-yatama fa-inkihu ma taba lakum mina al-nisai mathna wathulatha waruba'a fa-in khif'tum alla ta'dilu fawahidatan aw ma malakat aymanukum dhalika adna alla ta'ulu
— Transliteration

4:4
وَءَاتُواْ waatu And give ٱلنِّسَآءَ al-nisaa the women صَدُقَٰتِهِنَّ saduqatihinna their dower نِحۡلَةٗۚ nih'latan graciously فَإِن fa-in But if طِبۡنَ tib'na they remit لَكُمۡ lakum to you عَن an of شَيۡءٖ shayin anything مِّنۡهُ min'hu of it نَفۡسٗا nafsan (on their) own فَكُلُوهُ fakuluhu then eat it هَنِيٓـٔٗا hanian (in) satisfaction مَّرِيٓـٔٗا marian (and) ease ٤
waatu al-nisaa saduqatihinna nih'latan fa-in tib'na lakum an shayin min'hu nafsan fakuluhu hanian marian
— Transliteration

4:5
وَلَا wala And (do) not تُؤۡتُواْ tu'tu give ٱلسُّفَهَآءَ al-sufahaa the foolish أَمۡوَٰلَكُمُ amwalakumu your wealth ٱلَّتِي allati which جَعَلَ ja'ala (was) made ٱللَّهُ al-lahu (by) Allah لَكُمۡ lakum for you قِيَٰمٗا qiyaman a means of support وَٱرۡزُقُوهُمۡ wa-ur'zuquhum (but) provide (for) them فِيهَا fiha with it وَٱكۡسُوهُمۡ wa-ik'suhum and clothe them وَقُولُواْ waqulu and speak لَهُمۡ lahum to them قَوۡلٗا qawlan words مَّعۡرُوفٗا ma'rufan (of) kindness ٥
wala tu'tu al-sufahaa amwalakumu allati ja'ala al-lahu lakum qiyaman wa-ur'zuquhum fiha wa-ik'suhum waqulu lahum qawlan ma'rufan
— Transliteration

4:6
وَٱبۡتَلُواْ wa-ib'talu And test ٱلۡيَتَٰمَىٰ al-yatama the orphans حَتَّىٰٓ hatta until إِذَا idha [when] بَلَغُواْ balaghu they reach[ed] ٱلنِّكَاحَ al-nikaha (the age of) marriage فَإِنۡ fa-in then if ءَانَسۡتُم anastum you perceive مِّنۡهُمۡ min'hum in them رُشۡدٗا rush'dan sound judgement فَٱدۡفَعُوٓاْ fa-id'fa'u then deliver إِلَيۡهِمۡ ilayhim to them أَمۡوَٰلَهُمۡۖ amwalahum their wealth وَلَا wala And (do) not تَأۡكُلُوهَآ takuluha eat it إِسۡرَافٗا is'rafan extravagantly وَبِدَارًا wabidaran and hastily أَن an (fearing) that يَكۡبَرُواْۚ yakbaru they will grow up وَمَن waman And whoever كَانَ kana is غَنِيّٗا ghaniyyan rich فَلۡيَسۡتَعۡفِفۡۖ falyasta'fif then he should refrain وَمَن waman and whoever كَانَ kana is فَقِيرٗا faqiran poor فَلۡيَأۡكُلۡ falyakul then let him eat (of it) بِٱلۡمَعۡرُوفِۚ bil-ma'rufi in a fair manner فَإِذَا fa-idha Then when دَفَعۡتُمۡ dafa'tum you deliver إِلَيۡهِمۡ ilayhim to them أَمۡوَٰلَهُمۡ amwalahum their wealth فَأَشۡهِدُواْ fa-ashhidu then take witnesses عَلَيۡهِمۡۚ alayhim on them وَكَفَىٰ wakafa And is sufficient بِٱللَّهِ bil-lahi Allah حَسِيبٗا hasiban (as) a Reckoner ٦
wa-ib'talu al-yatama hatta idha balaghu al-nikaha fa-in anastum min'hum rush'dan fa-id'fa'u ilayhim amwalahum wala takuluha is'rafan wabidaran an yakbaru waman kana ghaniyyan falyasta'fif waman kana faqiran falyakul bil-ma'rufi fa-idha dafa'tum ilayhim amwalahum fa-ashhidu alayhim wakafa bil-lahi hasiban
— Transliteration

4:7
لِّلرِّجَالِ lilrrijali For the men نَصِيبٞ nasibun a portion مِّمَّا mimma of what تَرَكَ taraka (is) left ٱلۡوَٰلِدَانِ al-walidani (by) the parents وَٱلۡأَقۡرَبُونَ wal-aqrabuna and the near relatives وَلِلنِّسَآءِ walilnnisai and for the women نَصِيبٞ nasibun a portion مِّمَّا mimma of what تَرَكَ taraka (is) left ٱلۡوَٰلِدَانِ al-walidani (by) parents وَٱلۡأَقۡرَبُونَ wal-aqrabuna and the near relatives مِمَّا mimma of what قَلَّ qalla (is) little مِنۡهُ min'hu of it أَوۡ aw or كَثُرَۚ kathura much نَصِيبٗا nasiban a portion مَّفۡرُوضٗا mafrudan obligatory ٧
lilrrijali nasibun mimma taraka al-walidani wal-aqrabuna walilnnisai nasibun mimma taraka al-walidani wal-aqrabuna mimma qalla min'hu aw kathura nasiban mafrudan
— Transliteration

4:8
وَإِذَا wa-idha And when حَضَرَ hadara present ٱلۡقِسۡمَةَ al-qis'mata (at) the (time of) division أُوْلُواْ ulu (of) ٱلۡقُرۡبَىٰ al-qur'ba the relatives وَٱلۡيَتَٰمَىٰ wal-yatama and the orphans وَٱلۡمَسَٰكِينُ wal-masakinu and the poor فَٱرۡزُقُوهُم fa-ur'zuquhum then provide them مِّنۡهُ min'hu from it وَقُولُواْ waqulu and speak لَهُمۡ lahum to them قَوۡلٗا qawlan words مَّعۡرُوفٗا ma'rufan (of) kindness ٨
wa-idha hadara al-qis'mata ulu al-qur'ba wal-yatama wal-masakinu fa-ur'zuquhum min'hu waqulu lahum qawlan ma'rufan
— Transliteration

4:9
وَلۡيَخۡشَ walyakhsha And let fear ٱلَّذِينَ alladhina those who لَوۡ law if تَرَكُواْ taraku they left مِنۡ min from خَلۡفِهِمۡ khalfihim behind ذُرِّيَّةٗ dhurriyyatan offspring ضِعَٰفًا di'afan weak خَافُواْ khafu (and) they would have feared عَلَيۡهِمۡ alayhim about them فَلۡيَتَّقُواْ falyattaqu So let them fear ٱللَّهَ al-laha Allah وَلۡيَقُولُواْ walyaqulu and let them speak قَوۡلٗا qawlan words سَدِيدًا sadidan appropriate ٩
walyakhsha alladhina law taraku min khalfihim dhurriyyatan di'afan khafu alayhim falyattaqu al-laha walyaqulu qawlan sadidan
— Transliteration

4:10
إِنَّ inna Indeed ٱلَّذِينَ alladhina those who يَأۡكُلُونَ yakuluna consume أَمۡوَٰلَ amwala wealth ٱلۡيَتَٰمَىٰ al-yatama (of) the orphans ظُلۡمًا zul'man wrongfully إِنَّمَا innama only يَأۡكُلُونَ yakuluna they consume فِي fi in بُطُونِهِمۡ butunihim their bellies نَارٗاۖ naran fire وَسَيَصۡلَوۡنَ wasayaslawna and they will be burned سَعِيرٗا sa'iran (in) a Blazing Fire ١٠
inna alladhina yakuluna amwala al-yatama zul'man innama yakuluna fi butunihim naran wasayaslawna sa'iran
— Transliteration
