80:1
عَبَسَ abasa He frowned وَتَوَلَّىٰٓ watawalla and turned away ١
abasa watawalla
— Transliteration
The Prophet (Peace be upon him)) frowned and turned away

80:2
أَن an Because جَآءَهُ jaahu came to him ٱلۡأَعۡمَىٰ al-a'ma the blind man ٢
an jaahu al-a'ma
— Transliteration
Because there came to him the blind man (i.e. 'Abdullah bin Umm-Maktum, who came to the Prophet (Peace be upon him) while he was preaching to one or some of the Quraish chiefs

80:3
وَمَا wama But what يُدۡرِيكَ yud'rika would make you know لَعَلَّهُۥ la'allahu that he might يَزَّكَّىٰٓ yazzakka purify himself ٣
wama yud'rika la'allahu yazzakka
— Transliteration
But what could tell you that per chance he might become pure (from sins)

80:4
أَوۡ aw Or يَذَّكَّرُ yadhakkaru be reminded فَتَنفَعَهُ fatanfa'ahu so would benefit him ٱلذِّكۡرَىٰٓ al-dhik'ra the reminder? ٤
aw yadhakkaru fatanfa'ahu al-dhik'ra
— Transliteration
Or that he might receive admonition, and that the admonition might profit him

80:5
أَمَّا amma As for مَنِ mani (him) who ٱسۡتَغۡنَىٰ is'taghna considers himself free from need ٥
amma mani is'taghna
— Transliteration
As for him who thinks himself self-sufficient

80:6
فَأَنتَ fa-anta So you لَهُۥ lahu to him تَصَدَّىٰ tasadda give attention ٦
fa-anta lahu tasadda
— Transliteration
To him you attend

80:7
وَمَا wama And not عَلَيۡكَ alayka upon you أَلَّا alla that not يَزَّكَّىٰ yazzakka he purifies himself ٧
wama alayka alla yazzakka
— Transliteration
What does it matter to you if he will not become pure (from disbelief, you are only a Messenger, your duty is to convey the Message of Allah)

80:8
وَأَمَّا wa-amma But as for مَن man (he) who جَآءَكَ jaaka came to you يَسۡعَىٰ yas'a striving ٨
wa-amma man jaaka yas'a
— Transliteration
But as to him who came to you running

80:9
وَهُوَ wahuwa While he يَخۡشَىٰ yakhsha fears ٩
wahuwa yakhsha
— Transliteration
And is afraid (of Allah and His Punishment)

80:10
فَأَنتَ fa-anta But you عَنۡهُ anhu from him تَلَهَّىٰ talahha (are) distracted ١٠
fa-anta anhu talahha
— Transliteration
Of him you are neglectful and divert your attention to another
