حمٓ ha-meem Ha Meem ١
ha-meem
— Transliteration
Ha-Mim. [These letters are one of the miracles of the Quran, and none but Allah (Alone) knows their meanings

40:2
تَنزِيلُ tanzilu (The) revelation ٱلۡكِتَٰبِ al-kitabi (of) the Book مِنَ mina (is) from ٱللَّهِ al-lahi Allah ٱلۡعَزِيزِ al-'azizi the AllMighty ٱلۡعَلِيمِ al-'alimi the AllKnower ٢
tanzilu al-kitabi mina al-lahi al-'azizi al-'alimi
— Transliteration
The revelation of the Book (this Quran) is from Allah the All-Mighty, the All-Knower

40:3
غَافِرِ ghafiri (The) Forgiver ٱلذَّنۢبِ al-dhanbi (of) the sin وَقَابِلِ waqabili and (the) Acceptor ٱلتَّوۡبِ al-tawbi (of) [the] repentance شَدِيدِ shadidi severe ٱلۡعِقَابِ al-'iqabi (in) the punishment ذِي dhi Owner (of) the abundance ٱلطَّوۡلِۖ al-tawli Owner (of) the abundance لَآ la (There is) no إِلَٰهَ ilaha god إِلَّا illa except هُوَۖ huwa Him إِلَيۡهِ ilayhi to Him ٱلۡمَصِيرُ al-masiru (is) the final return ٣
ghafiri al-dhanbi waqabili al-tawbi shadidi al-'iqabi dhi al-tawli la ilaha illa huwa ilayhi al-masiru
— Transliteration
The Forgiver of sin, the Acceptor of repentance, the Severe in punishment, the Bestower (of favours), La ilaha illa Huwa (none has the right to be worshipped but He), to Him is the final return

40:4
مَا ma Not يُجَٰدِلُ yujadilu dispute فِيٓ fi concerning ءَايَٰتِ ayati (the) Verses ٱللَّهِ al-lahi (of) Allah إِلَّا illa except ٱلَّذِينَ alladhina those who كَفَرُواْ kafaru disbelieve فَلَا fala so (let) not يَغۡرُرۡكَ yaghrur'ka deceive you تَقَلُّبُهُمۡ taqallubuhum their movement فِي fi in ٱلۡبِلَٰدِ al-biladi the cities ٤
ma yujadilu fi ayati al-lahi illa alladhina kafaru fala yaghrur'ka taqallubuhum fi al-biladi
— Transliteration
None disputes in the Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.) of Allah but those who disbelieve. So let not their ability of going about here and there through the land (for their purposes) deceive you [O Muhammad SAW, their ultimate end will be the Fire of Hell]

40:5
كَذَّبَتۡ kadhabat Denied قَبۡلَهُمۡ qablahum before them قَوۡمُ qawmu (the) people نُوحٖ nuhin (of) Nuh وَٱلۡأَحۡزَابُ wal-ahzabu and the factions مِنۢ min after them بَعۡدِهِمۡۖ ba'dihim after them وَهَمَّتۡ wahammat and plotted كُلُّ kullu every أُمَّةِۭ ummatin nation بِرَسُولِهِمۡ birasulihim against their Messenger لِيَأۡخُذُوهُۖ liyakhudhuhu to seize him وَجَٰدَلُواْ wajadalu and they disputed بِٱلۡبَٰطِلِ bil-batili by falsehood لِيُدۡحِضُواْ liyud'hidu to refute بِهِ bihi thereby ٱلۡحَقَّ al-haqa the truth فَأَخَذۡتُهُمۡۖ fa-akhadhtuhum So I seized them فَكَيۡفَ fakayfa Then how كَانَ kana was عِقَابِ iqabi My penalty? ٥
kadhabat qablahum qawmu nuhin wal-ahzabu min ba'dihim wahammat kullu ummatin birasulihim liyakhudhuhu wajadalu bil-batili liyud'hidu bihi al-haqa fa-akhadhtuhum fakayfa kana iqabi
— Transliteration
The people of Nuh (Noah) and the confederates after them denied (their Messengers) before these, and every (disbelieving) nation plotted against their Messenger to seize him, and disputed by means of falsehood to refute therewith the truth. So I seized them (with punishment), and how (terrible) was My punishment

40:6
وَكَذَٰلِكَ wakadhalika And thus حَقَّتۡ haqqat has been justified كَلِمَتُ kalimatu (the) Word رَبِّكَ rabbika (of) your Lord عَلَى ala against ٱلَّذِينَ alladhina those who كَفَرُوٓاْ kafaru disbelieved أَنَّهُمۡ annahum that they أَصۡحَٰبُ ashabu (are) companions ٱلنَّارِ al-nari (of) the Fire ٦
wakadhalika haqqat kalimatu rabbika ala alladhina kafaru annahum ashabu al-nari
— Transliteration
Thus has the Word of your Lord been justified against those who disbelieved, that they will be the dwellers of the Fire

40:7
ٱلَّذِينَ alladhina Those who يَحۡمِلُونَ yahmiluna bear ٱلۡعَرۡشَ al-'arsha the Throne وَمَنۡ waman and who حَوۡلَهُۥ hawlahu (are) around it يُسَبِّحُونَ yusabbihuna glorify بِحَمۡدِ bihamdi (the) praises رَبِّهِمۡ rabbihim (of) their Lord وَيُؤۡمِنُونَ wayu'minuna and believe بِهِۦ bihi in Him وَيَسۡتَغۡفِرُونَ wayastaghfiruna and ask forgiveness لِلَّذِينَ lilladhina for those who ءَامَنُواْۖ amanu believe رَبَّنَا rabbana Our Lord! وَسِعۡتَ wasi'ta You encompass كُلَّ kulla all شَيۡءٖ shayin things رَّحۡمَةٗ rahmatan (by Your) Mercy وَعِلۡمٗا wa'il'man and knowledge فَٱغۡفِرۡ fa-igh'fir so forgive لِلَّذِينَ lilladhina those who تَابُواْ tabu repent وَٱتَّبَعُواْ wa-ittaba'u and follow سَبِيلَكَ sabilaka Your Way وَقِهِمۡ waqihim and save them (from) عَذَابَ adhaba (the) punishment ٱلۡجَحِيمِ al-jahimi (of) the Hellfire ٧
alladhina yahmiluna al-'arsha waman hawlahu yusabbihuna bihamdi rabbihim wayu'minuna bihi wayastaghfiruna lilladhina amanu rabbana wasi'ta kulla shayin rahmatan wa'il'man fa-igh'fir lilladhina tabu wa-ittaba'u sabilaka waqihim adhaba al-jahimi
— Transliteration
Those (angels) who bear the Throne (of Allah) and those around it glorify the praises of their Lord, and believe in Him, and ask forgiveness for those who believe (in the Oneness of Allah) (saying): "Our Lord! You comprehend all things in mercy and knowledge, so forgive those who repent and follow Your Way, and save them from the torment of the blazing Fire

40:8
رَبَّنَا rabbana Our Lord! وَأَدۡخِلۡهُمۡ wa-adkhil'hum And admit them جَنَّٰتِ jannati (to) Gardens عَدۡنٍ adnin (of) Eden ٱلَّتِي allati which وَعَدتَّهُمۡ wa'adttahum You have promised them وَمَن waman and whoever صَلَحَ salaha (was) righteous مِنۡ min among ءَابَآئِهِمۡ abaihim their fathers وَأَزۡوَٰجِهِمۡ wa-azwajihim and their spouses وَذُرِّيَّٰتِهِمۡۚ wadhurriyyatihim and their offspring إِنَّكَ innaka Indeed You أَنتَ anta You ٱلۡعَزِيزُ al-'azizu (are) the AllMighty ٱلۡحَكِيمُ al-hakimu the AllWise ٨
rabbana wa-adkhil'hum jannati adnin allati wa'adttahum waman salaha min abaihim wa-azwajihim wadhurriyyatihim innaka anta al-'azizu al-hakimu
— Transliteration
Our Lord! And make them enter the 'Adn (Eden) Paradise (everlasting Gardens) which you have promised them, and to the righteous among their fathers, their wives, and their offspring! Verily, You are the All-Mighty, the All-Wise

40:9
وَقِهِمُ waqihimu And protect them ٱلسَّيِّـَٔاتِۚ al-sayiati (from) the evils وَمَن waman And whoever تَقِ taqi you protect ٱلسَّيِّـَٔاتِ al-sayiati (from) the evils يَوۡمَئِذٖ yawma-idhin that Day فَقَدۡ faqad then verily رَحِمۡتَهُۥۚ rahim'tahu You have bestowed mercy on him وَذَٰلِكَ wadhalika And that هُوَ huwa [it] ٱلۡفَوۡزُ al-fawzu (is) the success ٱلۡعَظِيمُ al-'azimu the great ٩
waqihimu al-sayiati waman taqi al-sayiati yawma-idhin faqad rahim'tahu wadhalika huwa al-fawzu al-'azimu
— Transliteration
And save them from (the punishment, because of what they did of) the sins, and whomsoever You save from (the punishment, because of what they did of) the sins (i.e. excuse them) that Day, him verily, You have taken into mercy." And that is the supreme success

40:10
إِنَّ inna Indeed ٱلَّذِينَ alladhina those who كَفَرُواْ kafaru disbelieved يُنَادَوۡنَ yunadawna will be cried out to them لَمَقۡتُ lamaqtu Certainly Allah's hatred ٱللَّهِ al-lahi Certainly Allah's hatred أَكۡبَرُ akbaru (was) greater مِن min than مَّقۡتِكُمۡ maqtikum your hatred أَنفُسَكُمۡ anfusakum (of) yourselves إِذۡ idh when تُدۡعَوۡنَ tud'awna you were called إِلَى ila to ٱلۡإِيمَٰنِ al-imani the faith فَتَكۡفُرُونَ fatakfuruna and you disbelieved ١٠
inna alladhina kafaru yunadawna lamaqtu al-lahi akbaru min maqtikum anfusakum idh tud'awna ila al-imani fatakfuruna
— Transliteration
Those who disbelieve will be addressed (at the time of entering into the Fire): "Allah's aversion was greater towards you (in the worldly life when you used to reject the Faith) than your aversion towards one another (now in the Fire of Hell, as you are now enemies to one another), when you were called to the Faith but you used to refuse
