102:1
أَلۡهَىٰكُمُ alhakumu Diverts you ٱلتَّكَاثُرُ al-takathuru the competition to increase ١
alhakumu al-takathuru
— Transliteration
The mutual rivalry for piling up of worldly things diverts you

102:2
حَتَّىٰ hatta Until زُرۡتُمُ zur'tumu you visit ٱلۡمَقَابِرَ al-maqabira the graves ٢
hatta zur'tumu al-maqabira
— Transliteration
Until you visit the graves (i.e. till you die)

كـَلَّا kalla Nay! سَوۡفَ sawfa Soon تَعۡلَمُونَ ta'lamuna you will know ٣
kalla sawfa ta'lamuna
— Transliteration
Nay! You shall come to know

ثُمَّ thumma Then كـَلَّا kalla nay! سَوۡفَ sawfa Soon تَعۡلَمُونَ ta'lamuna you will know ٤

— Transliteration
Again, Nay! You shall come to know

102:5
كـَلَّا kalla Nay! لَوۡ law If تَعۡلَمُونَ ta'lamuna you know عِلۡمَ il'ma (with) a knowledge ٱلۡيَقِينِ al-yaqini (of) certainty ٥
kalla law ta'lamuna il'ma al-yaqini
— Transliteration
Nay! If you knew with a sure knowledge (the end result of piling up, you would not have occupied yourselves in worldly things)

لَتَرَوُنَّ latarawunna Surely you will see ٱلۡجَحِيمَ al-jahima the Hellfire ٦

— Transliteration
Verily, You shall see the blazing Fire (Hell)

ثُمَّ thumma Then لَتَرَوُنَّهَا latarawunnaha surely you will see it عَيۡنَ ayna (with the) eye ٱلۡيَقِينِ al-yaqini (of) certainty ٧

— Transliteration
And again, you shall see it with certainty of sight

102:8
ثُمَّ thumma Then لَتُسۡـَٔلُنَّ latus'alunna surely you will be asked يَوۡمَئِذٍ yawma-idhin that Day عَنِ ani about ٱلنَّعِيمِ al-na'imi the pleasures ٨
thumma latus'alunna yawma-idhin ani al-na'imi
— Transliteration
Then, on that Day, you shall be asked about the delight (you indulged in, in this world)
