71:1
إِنَّآ inna Indeed We أَرۡسَلۡنَا arsalna [We] sent نُوحًا nuhan Nuh إِلَىٰ ila to قَوۡمِهِۦٓ qawmihi his people أَنۡ an that أَنذِرۡ andhir Warn قَوۡمَكَ qawmaka your people مِن min from قَبۡلِ qabli before أَن an [that] يَأۡتِيَهُمۡ yatiyahum comes to them عَذَابٌ adhabun a punishment أَلِيمٞ alimun painful ١
inna arsalna nuhan ila qawmihi an andhir qawmaka min qabli an yatiyahum adhabun alimun
— Transliteration
Verily, We sent Nuh (Noah) to his people (Saying): "Warn your people before there comes to them a painful torment

71:2
قَالَ qala He said يَٰقَوۡمِ yaqawmi O my people! إِنِّي inni Indeed I am لَكُمۡ lakum to you نَذِيرٞ nadhirun a warner مُّبِينٌ mubinun clear ٢
qala yaqawmi inni lakum nadhirun mubinun
— Transliteration
He said: "O my people! Verily, I am a plain warner to you

71:3
أَنِ ani That ٱعۡبُدُواْ u'budu Worship ٱللَّهَ al-laha Allah وَٱتَّقُوهُ wa-ittaquhu and fear Him وَأَطِيعُونِ wa-ati'uni and obey me ٣
ani u'budu al-laha wa-ittaquhu wa-ati'uni
— Transliteration
That you should worship Allah (Alone), be dutiful to Him, and obey me

71:4
يَغۡفِرۡ yaghfir He will forgive لَكُم lakum for you مِّن min [of] ذُنُوبِكُمۡ dhunubikum your sins وَيُؤَخِّرۡكُمۡ wayu-akhir'kum and give you respite إِلَىٰٓ ila for أَجَلٖ ajalin a term مُّسَمًّىۚ musamman specified إِنَّ inna Indeed أَجَلَ ajala (the) term ٱللَّهِ al-lahi (of) Allah إِذَا idha when جَآءَ jaa it comes لَا la not يُؤَخَّرُۚ yu-akharu is delayed لَوۡ law if كُنتُمۡ kuntum you تَعۡلَمُونَ ta'lamuna know ٤
yaghfir lakum min dhunubikum wayu-akhir'kum ila ajalin musamman inna ajala al-lahi idha jaa la yu-akharu law kuntum ta'lamuna
— Transliteration
He (Allah) will forgive you of your sins and respite you to an appointed term. Verily, the term of Allah when it comes, cannot be delayed, if you but knew

71:5
قَالَ qala He said رَبِّ rabbi My Lord! إِنِّي inni Indeed I دَعَوۡتُ da'awtu invited قَوۡمِي qawmi my people لَيۡلٗا laylan night وَنَهَارٗا wanaharan and day ٥
qala rabbi inni da'awtu qawmi laylan wanaharan
— Transliteration
He said: "O my Lord! Verily, I have called my people night and day (i.e. secretly and openly to accept the doctrine of Islamic Monotheism)

71:6
فَلَمۡ falam But not يَزِدۡهُمۡ yazid'hum increased them دُعَآءِيٓ du'ai my invitation إِلَّا illa except فِرَارٗا firaran (in) flight ٦
falam yazid'hum du'ai illa firaran
— Transliteration
But all my calling added nothing but to (their) flight (from the truth)

71:7
وَإِنِّي wa-inni And indeed I كُلَّمَا kullama every time دَعَوۡتُهُمۡ da'awtuhum I invited them لِتَغۡفِرَ litaghfira that You may forgive لَهُمۡ lahum them جَعَلُوٓاْ ja'alu they put أَصَٰبِعَهُمۡ asabi'ahum their fingers فِيٓ fi in ءَاذَانِهِمۡ adhanihim their ears وَٱسۡتَغۡشَوۡاْ wa-is'taghshaw and covered themselves ثِيَابَهُمۡ thiyabahum (with) their garments وَأَصَرُّواْ wa-asarru and persisted وَٱسۡتَكۡبَرُواْ wa-is'takbaru and were arrogant ٱسۡتِكۡبَارٗا is'tik'baran (with) pride ٧
wa-inni kullama da'awtuhum litaghfira lahum ja'alu asabi'ahum fi adhanihim wa-is'taghshaw thiyabahum wa-asarru wa-is'takbaru is'tik'baran
— Transliteration
And verily! Every time I called unto them that You might forgive them, they thrust their fingers into their ears, covered themselves up with their garments, and persisted (in their refusal), and magnified themselves in pride

71:8
ثُمَّ thumma Then إِنِّي inni indeed I دَعَوۡتُهُمۡ da'awtuhum invited them جِهَارٗا jiharan publicly ٨
thumma inni da'awtuhum jiharan
— Transliteration
Then verily, I called to them openly (aloud)

71:9
ثُمَّ thumma Then إِنِّيٓ inni indeed I أَعۡلَنتُ a'lantu announced لَهُمۡ lahum to them وَأَسۡرَرۡتُ wa-asrartu and I confided لَهُمۡ lahum to them إِسۡرَارٗا is'raran secretly ٩
thumma inni a'lantu lahum wa-asrartu lahum is'raran
— Transliteration
Then verily, I proclaimed to them in public, and I have appealed to them in private

71:10
فَقُلۡتُ faqul'tu Then I said ٱسۡتَغۡفِرُواْ is'taghfiru Ask forgiveness رَبَّكُمۡ rabbakum (from) your Lord إِنَّهُۥ innahu Indeed He كَانَ kana is غَفَّارٗا ghaffaran OftForgiving ١٠
faqul'tu is'taghfiru rabbakum innahu kana ghaffaran
— Transliteration
I said (to them): 'Ask forgiveness from your Lord; Verily, He is Oft-Forgiving
