70:1
سَأَلَ sa-ala Asked سَآئِلُۢ sailun a questioner بِعَذَابٖ bi'adhabin about a punishment وَاقِعٖ waqi'in bound to happen ١
sa-ala sailun bi'adhabin waqi'in
— Transliteration
A questioner asked concerning a torment about to befall

70:2
لِّلۡكَٰفِرِينَ lil'kafirina To the disbelievers لَيۡسَ laysa not لَهُۥ lahu of it دَافِعٞ dafi'un any preventer ٢
lil'kafirina laysa lahu dafi'un
— Transliteration
Upon the disbelievers, which none can avert

مِّنَ mina From ٱللَّهِ al-lahi Allah ذِي dhi Owner ٱلۡمَعَارِجِ al-ma'ariji (of) the ways of ascent ٣
mina al-lahi dhi al-ma'ariji
— Transliteration
From Allah, the Lord of the ways of ascent

70:4
تَعۡرُجُ ta'ruju Ascend ٱلۡمَلَٰٓئِكَةُ al-malaikatu the Angels وَٱلرُّوحُ wal-ruhu and the Spirit إِلَيۡهِ ilayhi to Him فِي fi in يَوۡمٖ yawmin a Day كَانَ kana [is] مِقۡدَارُهُۥ miq'daruhu its measure خَمۡسِينَ khamsina (is) fifty أَلۡفَ alfa thousand سَنَةٖ sanatin year(s) ٤
ta'ruju al-malaikatu wal-ruhu ilayhi fi yawmin kana miq'daruhu khamsina alfa sanatin
— Transliteration
The angels and the Ruh [Jibrael (Gabriel)] ascend to Him in a Day the measure whereof is fifty thousand years

70:5
فَٱصۡبِرۡ fa-is'bir So be patient صَبۡرٗا sabran a patience جَمِيلًا jamilan good ٥
fa-is'bir sabran jamilan
— Transliteration
So be patient (O Muhammad SAW), with a good patience

70:6
إِنَّهُمۡ innahum Indeed they يَرَوۡنَهُۥ yarawnahu see it بَعِيدٗا ba'idan (as) far off ٦
innahum yarawnahu ba'idan
— Transliteration
Verily! They see it (the torment) afar off

70:7
وَنَرَىٰهُ wanarahu But We see it قَرِيبٗا qariban near ٧
wanarahu qariban
— Transliteration
But We see it (quite) near

70:8
يَوۡمَ yawma (The) Day تَكُونُ takunu will be ٱلسَّمَآءُ al-samau the sky كَٱلۡمُهۡلِ kal-muh'li like molten copper ٨
yawma takunu al-samau kal-muh'li
— Transliteration
The Day that the sky will be like the boiling filth of oil, (or molten copper or silver or lead, etc)

70:9
وَتَكُونُ watakunu And will be ٱلۡجِبَالُ al-jibalu the mountains كَٱلۡعِهۡنِ kal-'ih'ni like wool ٩

— Transliteration
And the mountains will be like flakes of wool

70:10
وَلَا wala And not يَسۡـَٔلُ yasalu will ask حَمِيمٌ hamimun a friend حَمِيمٗا hamiman (about) a friend ١٠
wala yasalu hamimun hamiman
— Transliteration
And no friend will ask of a friend
