24:1
سُورَةٌ suratun A Surah أَنزَلۡنَٰهَا anzalnaha We (have) sent it down وَفَرَضۡنَٰهَا wafaradnaha and We (have) made it obligatory وَأَنزَلۡنَا wa-anzalna and We (have) revealed فِيهَآ fiha therein ءَايَٰتِۭ ayatin Verses بَيِّنَٰتٖ bayyinatin clear لَّعَلَّكُمۡ la'allakum so that you may تَذَكَّرُونَ tadhakkaruna take heed ١
suratun anzalnaha wafaradnaha wa-anzalna fiha ayatin bayyinatin la'allakum tadhakkaruna
— Transliteration
(This is) a Surah (chapter of the Quran) which We have sent down and which We have enjoined, (ordained its legal laws) and in it We have revealed manifest Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations lawful and unlawful things, and set boundries of Islamic Religion), that you may remember

24:2
ٱلزَّانِيَةُ al-zaniyatu The fornicatress وَٱلزَّانِي wal-zani and the fornicator فَٱجۡلِدُواْ fa-ij'lidu [then] flog كُلَّ kulla each وَٰحِدٖ wahidin one مِّنۡهُمَا min'huma of them مِاْئَةَ mi-ata (with) hundred جَلۡدَةٖۖ jaldatin lash(es) وَلَا wala And (let) not تَأۡخُذۡكُم takhudh'kum withhold you بِهِمَا bihima pity for them رَأۡفَةٞ rafatun pity for them فِي fi concerning دِينِ dini (the) religion of Allah ٱللَّهِ al-lahi (the) religion of Allah إِن in if كُنتُمۡ kuntum you تُؤۡمِنُونَ tu'minuna believe بِٱللَّهِ bil-lahi in Allah وَٱلۡيَوۡمِ wal-yawmi and the Day ٱلۡأٓخِرِۖ al-akhiri the Last وَلۡيَشۡهَدۡ walyashhad And let witness عَذَابَهُمَا adhabahuma their punishment طَآئِفَةٞ taifatun a group مِّنَ mina of ٱلۡمُؤۡمِنِينَ al-mu'minina the believers ٢
al-zaniyatu wal-zani fa-ij'lidu kulla wahidin min'huma mi-ata jaldatin wala takhudh'kum bihima rafatun fi dini al-lahi in kuntum tu'minuna bil-lahi wal-yawmi al-akhiri walyashhad adhabahuma taifatun mina al-mu'minina
— Transliteration
The woman and the man guilty of illegal sexual intercourse, flog each of them with a hundred stripes. Let not pity withhold you in their case, in a punishment prescribed by Allah, if you believe in Allah and the Last Day. And let a party of the believers witness their punishment. (This punishment is for unmarried persons guilty of the above crime but if married persons commit it, the punishment is to stone them to death, according to Allah's Law)

24:3
ٱلزَّانِي al-zani The fornicator لَا la (will) not يَنكِحُ yankihu marry إِلَّا illa except زَانِيَةً zaniyatan a fornicatress أَوۡ aw or مُشۡرِكَةٗ mush'rikatan a polytheist woman وَٱلزَّانِيَةُ wal-zaniyatu and the fornicatress لَا la (will) not يَنكِحُهَآ yankihuha marry her إِلَّا illa except زَانٍ zanin a fornicator أَوۡ aw or مُشۡرِكٞۚ mush'rikun a polytheist man وَحُرِّمَ wahurrima And is forbidden ذَٰلِكَ dhalika that عَلَى ala to ٱلۡمُؤۡمِنِينَ al-mu'minina the believers ٣
al-zani la yankihu illa zaniyatan aw mush'rikatan wal-zaniyatu la yankihuha illa zanin aw mush'rikun wahurrima dhalika ala al-mu'minina
— Transliteration
The adulterer marries not but an adulteress or a Mushrikah and the adulteress none marries her except an adulterer or a Muskrik [and that means that the man who agrees to marry (have a sexual relation with) a Mushrikah (female polytheist, pagan or idolatress) or a prostitute, then surely he is either an adulterer, or a Mushrik (polytheist, pagan or idolater, etc.) And the woman who agrees to marry (have a sexual relation with) a Mushrik (polytheist, pagan or idolater) or an adulterer, then she is either a prostitute or a Mushrikah (female polytheist, pagan, or idolatress, etc.)]. Such a thing is forbidden to the believers (of Islamic Monotheism)

24:4
وَٱلَّذِينَ wa-alladhina And those who يَرۡمُونَ yarmuna accuse ٱلۡمُحۡصَنَٰتِ al-muh'sanati the chaste women ثُمَّ thumma then لَمۡ lam not يَأۡتُواْ yatu they bring بِأَرۡبَعَةِ bi-arba'ati four شُهَدَآءَ shuhadaa witnesses فَٱجۡلِدُوهُمۡ fa-ij'liduhum then flog them ثَمَٰنِينَ thamanina (with) eighty جَلۡدَةٗ jaldatan lashe(s) وَلَا wala and (do) not تَقۡبَلُواْ taqbalu accept لَهُمۡ lahum their شَهَٰدَةً shahadatan testimony أَبَدٗاۚ abadan ever وَأُوْلَٰٓئِكَ wa-ulaika And those هُمُ humu they ٱلۡفَٰسِقُونَ al-fasiquna (are) the defiantly disobedient ٤
wa-alladhina yarmuna al-muh'sanati thumma lam yatu bi-arba'ati shuhadaa fa-ij'liduhum thamanina jaldatan wala taqbalu lahum shahadatan abadan wa-ulaika humu al-fasiquna
— Transliteration
And those who accuse chaste women, and produce not four witnesses, flog them with eighty stripes, and reject their testimony forever, they indeed are the Fasiqun (liars, rebellious, disobedient to Allah)

24:5
إِلَّا illa Except ٱلَّذِينَ alladhina those who تَابُواْ tabu repent مِنۢ min after بَعۡدِ ba'di after ذَٰلِكَ dhalika that وَأَصۡلَحُواْ wa-aslahu and reform فَإِنَّ fa-inna Then indeed ٱللَّهَ al-laha Allah غَفُورٞ ghafurun (is) OftForgiving رَّحِيمٞ rahimun Most Merciful ٥
illa alladhina tabu min ba'di dhalika wa-aslahu fa-inna al-laha ghafurun rahimun
— Transliteration
Except those who repent thereafter and do righteous deeds, (for such) verily, Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful

24:6
وَٱلَّذِينَ wa-alladhina And those who يَرۡمُونَ yarmuna accuse أَزۡوَٰجَهُمۡ azwajahum their spouses وَلَمۡ walam and not يَكُن yakun have لَّهُمۡ lahum for them شُهَدَآءُ shuhadau witnesses إِلَّآ illa except أَنفُسُهُمۡ anfusuhum themselves فَشَهَٰدَةُ fashahadatu then (the) testimony أَحَدِهِمۡ ahadihim (of) one of them أَرۡبَعُ arba'u (is) four شَهَٰدَٰتِۭ shahadatin testimonies بِٱللَّهِ bil-lahi by Allah إِنَّهُۥ innahu that he لَمِنَ lamina (is) surely of ٱلصَّٰدِقِينَ al-sadiqina the truthful ٦
wa-alladhina yarmuna azwajahum walam yakun lahum shuhadau illa anfusuhum fashahadatu ahadihim arba'u shahadatin bil-lahi innahu lamina al-sadiqina
— Transliteration
And for those who accuse their wives, but have no witnesses except themselves, let the testimony of one of them be four testimonies (i.e. testifies four times) by Allah that he is one of those who speak the truth

24:7
وَٱلۡخَٰمِسَةُ wal-khamisatu And the fifth أَنَّ anna that لَعۡنَتَ la'nata (the) curse of Allah ٱللَّهِ al-lahi (the) curse of Allah عَلَيۡهِ alayhi (be) upon him إِن in if كَانَ kana he is مِنَ mina of ٱلۡكَٰذِبِينَ al-kadhibina the liars ٧
wal-khamisatu anna la'nata al-lahi alayhi in kana mina al-kadhibina
— Transliteration
And the fifth (testimony) (should be) the invoking of the Curse of Allah on him if he be of those who tell a lie (against her)

24:8
وَيَدۡرَؤُاْ wayadra-u But it would prevent عَنۡهَا anha from her ٱلۡعَذَابَ al-'adhaba the punishment أَن an that تَشۡهَدَ tashhada she bears witness أَرۡبَعَ arba'a four شَهَٰدَٰتِۭ shahadatin testimonies بِٱللَّهِ bil-lahi by Allah إِنَّهُۥ innahu that he لَمِنَ lamina (is) surely of ٱلۡكَٰذِبِينَ al-kadhibina the liars ٨
wayadra-u anha al-'adhaba an tashhada arba'a shahadatin bil-lahi innahu lamina al-kadhibina
— Transliteration
But it shall avert the punishment (of stoning to death) from her, if she bears witness four times by Allah, that he (her husband) is telling a lie

24:9
وَٱلۡخَٰمِسَةَ wal-khamisata And the fifth أَنَّ anna that غَضَبَ ghadaba the wrath of Allah ٱللَّهِ al-lahi the wrath of Allah عَلَيۡهَآ alayha (be) upon her إِن in if كَانَ kana he is مِنَ mina of ٱلصَّٰدِقِينَ al-sadiqina the truthful ٩
wal-khamisata anna ghadaba al-lahi alayha in kana mina al-sadiqina
— Transliteration
And the fifth (testimony) should be that the Wrath of Allah be upon her if he (her husband) speaks the truth

24:10
وَلَوۡلَا walawla And if not فَضۡلُ fadlu (for) the Grace of Allah ٱللَّهِ al-lahi (for) the Grace of Allah عَلَيۡكُمۡ alaykum upon you وَرَحۡمَتُهُۥ warahmatuhu and His Mercy وَأَنَّ wa-anna and that ٱللَّهَ al-laha Allah تَوَّابٌ tawwabun (is) OftReturning (to Mercy) حَكِيمٌ hakimun AllWise ١٠
walawla fadlu al-lahi alaykum warahmatuhu wa-anna al-laha tawwabun hakimun
— Transliteration
And had it not been for the Grace of Allah and His Mercy on you (He would have hastened the punishment upon you)! And that Allah is the One Who accepts repentance, the All-Wise
