21:1
ٱقۡتَرَبَ iq'taraba (Has) approached لِلنَّاسِ lilnnasi for [the] mankind حِسَابُهُمۡ hisabuhum their account وَهُمۡ wahum while they فِي fi (are) in غَفۡلَةٖ ghaflatin heedlessness مُّعۡرِضُونَ mu'riduna turning away ١
iq'taraba lilnnasi hisabuhum wahum fi ghaflatin mu'riduna
— Transliteration
Draws near for mankind their reckoning, while they turn away in heedlessness

21:2
مَا ma Not يَأۡتِيهِم yatihim comes to them مِّن min of ذِكۡرٖ dhik'rin a Reminder مِّن min from رَّبِّهِم rabbihim their Lord مُّحۡدَثٍ muh'dathin anew إِلَّا illa except ٱسۡتَمَعُوهُ is'tama'uhu they listen to it وَهُمۡ wahum while they يَلۡعَبُونَ yal'abuna (are at) play ٢
ma yatihim min dhik'rin min rabbihim muh'dathin illa is'tama'uhu wahum yal'abuna
— Transliteration
Comes not unto them an admonition (a chapter of the Quran) from their Lord as a recent revelation but they listen to it while they play

21:3
لَاهِيَةٗ lahiyatan Distracted قُلُوبُهُمۡۗ qulubuhum their hearts وَأَسَرُّواْ wa-asarru And they conceal ٱلنَّجۡوَى al-najwa the private conversation ٱلَّذِينَ alladhina those who ظَلَمُواْ zalamu [they] wronged هَلۡ hal Is هَٰذَآ hadha this إِلَّا illa except بَشَرٞ basharun a human being مِّثۡلُكُمۡۖ mith'lukum like you? أَفَتَأۡتُونَ afatatuna So would you approach ٱلسِّحۡرَ al-sih'ra the magic وَأَنتُمۡ wa-antum while you تُبۡصِرُونَ tub'siruna see (it)? ٣
lahiyatan qulubuhum wa-asarru al-najwa alladhina zalamu hal hadha illa basharun mith'lukum afatatuna al-sih'ra wa-antum tub'siruna
— Transliteration
With their hearts occupied (with evil things) those who do wrong, conceal their private counsels, (saying): "Is this (Muhammad SAW) more than a human being like you? Will you submit to magic while you see it

21:4
قَالَ qala He said رَبِّي rabbi My Lord يَعۡلَمُ ya'lamu knows ٱلۡقَوۡلَ al-qawla the word فِي fi in ٱلسَّمَآءِ al-samai the heavens وَٱلۡأَرۡضِۖ wal-ardi and the earth وَهُوَ wahuwa And He ٱلسَّمِيعُ al-sami'u (is) the AllHearer ٱلۡعَلِيمُ al-'alimu the AllKnower ٤
qala rabbi ya'lamu al-qawla fi al-samai wal-ardi wahuwa al-sami'u al-'alimu
— Transliteration
He (Muhammad SAW) said: "My Lord knows (every) word (spoken) in the heavens and on earth. And He is the All-Hearer, the All-Knower

21:5
بَلۡ bal Nay قَالُوٓاْ qalu they say أَضۡغَٰثُ adghathu Muddled أَحۡلَٰمِۭ ahlamin dreams بَلِ bali nay ٱفۡتَرَىٰهُ if'tarahu he (has) invented it بَلۡ bal nay هُوَ huwa he شَاعِرٞ sha'irun (is) a poet فَلۡيَأۡتِنَا falyatina So let him bring us بِـَٔايَةٖ biayatin a sign كَمَآ kama like what أُرۡسِلَ ur'sila was sent ٱلۡأَوَّلُونَ al-awaluna (to) the former ٥
bal qalu adghathu ahlamin bali if'tarahu bal huwa sha'irun falyatina biayatin kama ur'sila al-awaluna
— Transliteration
Nay, they say:"These (revelations of the Quran which are inspired to Muhammad SAW) are mixed up false dreams! Nay, he has invented it! Nay, he is a poet! Let him then bring us an Ayah (sign as a proof) like the ones (Prophets) that were sent before (with signs)

21:6
مَآ ma Not ءَامَنَتۡ amanat believed قَبۡلَهُم qablahum before them مِّن min any قَرۡيَةٍ qaryatin town أَهۡلَكۡنَٰهَآۖ ahlaknaha which We destroyed أَفَهُمۡ afahum so will they يُؤۡمِنُونَ yu'minuna believe? ٦
ma amanat qablahum min qaryatin ahlaknaha afahum yu'minuna
— Transliteration
Not one of the towns (populations), of those which We destroyed, believed before them (though We sent them signs), will they then believe

21:7
وَمَآ wama And not أَرۡسَلۡنَا arsalna We sent قَبۡلَكَ qablaka before you إِلَّا illa except رِجَالٗا rijalan men نُّوحِيٓ nuhi We revealed إِلَيۡهِمۡۖ ilayhim to them فَسۡـَٔلُوٓاْ fasalu So ask أَهۡلَ ahla (the) people ٱلذِّكۡرِ al-dhik'ri (of) the Reminder إِن in if كُنتُمۡ kuntum you لَا la (do) not تَعۡلَمُونَ ta'lamuna know ٧
wama arsalna qablaka illa rijalan nuhi ilayhim fasalu ahla al-dhik'ri in kuntum la ta'lamuna
— Transliteration
And We sent not before you (O Muhammad SAW) but men to whom We inspired, so ask the people of the Reminder [Scriptures - the Taurat (Torah), the Injeel (Gospel)] if you do not know

21:8
وَمَا wama And not جَعَلۡنَٰهُمۡ ja'alnahum We made them جَسَدٗا jasadan bodies لَّا la not يَأۡكُلُونَ yakuluna eating ٱلطَّعَامَ al-ta'ama the food وَمَا wama and not كَانُواْ kanu they were خَٰلِدِينَ khalidina immortals ٨
wama ja'alnahum jasadan la yakuluna al-ta'ama wama kanu khalidina
— Transliteration
And We did not create them (the Messengers, with) bodies that ate not food, nor were they immortals

21:9
ثُمَّ thumma Then صَدَقۡنَٰهُمُ sadaqnahumu We fulfilled (for) them ٱلۡوَعۡدَ al-wa'da the promise فَأَنجَيۡنَٰهُمۡ fa-anjaynahum and We saved them وَمَن waman and whom نَّشَآءُ nashau We willed وَأَهۡلَكۡنَا wa-ahlakna and We destroyed ٱلۡمُسۡرِفِينَ al-mus'rifina the transgressors ٩
thumma sadaqnahumu al-wa'da fa-anjaynahum waman nashau wa-ahlakna al-mus'rifina
— Transliteration
Then We fulfilled to them the promise, and We saved them and those whom We willed, but We destroyed Al-Musrifun (i.e. extravagants in oppression, polytheism and in sin)

21:10
لَقَدۡ laqad Indeed أَنزَلۡنَآ anzalna We (have) sent down إِلَيۡكُمۡ ilaykum to you كِتَٰبٗا kitaban a Book فِيهِ fihi in it ذِكۡرُكُمۡۚ dhik'rukum (is) your mention أَفَلَا afala Then will not تَعۡقِلُونَ ta'qiluna you use reason? ١٠
laqad anzalna ilaykum kitaban fihi dhik'rukum afala ta'qiluna
— Transliteration
Indeed, We have sent down for you (O mankind) a Book, (the Quran) in which there is Dhikrukum, (your Reminder or an honour for you i.e. honour for the one who follows the teaching of the Quran and acts on its orders). Will you not then understand
