103:1
وَٱلۡعَصۡرِ wal-'asri By the time ١
wal-'asri
— Transliteration
By Al-'Asr (the time)

103:2
إِنَّ inna Indeed ٱلۡإِنسَٰنَ al-insana mankind لَفِي lafi (is) surely in خُسۡرٍ khus'rin loss ٢
inna al-insana lafi khus'rin
— Transliteration
Verily! Man is in loss

103:3
إِلَّا illa Except ٱلَّذِينَ alladhina those who ءَامَنُواْ amanu believe وَعَمِلُواْ wa'amilu and do ٱلصَّٰلِحَٰتِ al-salihati righteous deeds وَتَوَاصَوۡاْ watawasaw and enjoin (each other) بِٱلۡحَقِّ bil-haqi to the truth وَتَوَاصَوۡاْ watawasaw and enjoin (each other) بِٱلصَّبۡرِ bil-sabri to [the] patience ٣
illa alladhina amanu wa'amilu al-salihati watawasaw bil-haqi watawasaw bil-sabri
— Transliteration
Except those who believe (in Islamic Monotheism) and do righteous good deeds, and recommend one another to the truth (i.e. order one another to perform all kinds of good deeds (Al-Ma'ruf) which Allah has ordained, and abstain from all kinds of sins and evil deeds (Al-Munkar) which Allah has forbidden), and recommend one another to patience (for the sufferings, harms, and injuries which one may encounter in Allah's Cause during preaching His religion of Islamic Monotheism or Jihad, etc)
