81:1

إِذَا idha When ٱلشَّمۡسُ al-shamsu the sun كُوِّرَتۡ kuwwirat is wrapped up ١

idha al-shamsu kuwwirat
— Transliteration

When the sun Kuwwirat (wound round and lost its light and is overthrown)

81:2

وَإِذَا wa-idha And when ٱلنُّجُومُ al-nujumu the stars ٱنكَدَرَتۡ inkadarat fall losing their luster ٢

wa-idha al-nujumu inkadarat
— Transliteration

And when the stars shall fall
— English - Hilali & Khan

81:3

وَإِذَا wa-idha And when ٱلۡجِبَالُ al-jibalu the mountains سُيِّرَتۡ suyyirat are moved away ٣

wa-idha al-jibalu suyyirat
— Transliteration

And when the mountains shall made to pass away

81:4

وَإِذَا wa-idha And when ٱلۡعِشَارُ al-'isharu the fullterm shecamels عُطِّلَتۡ uttilat (are) left untended ٤

wa-idha al-'isharu uttilat
— Transliteration

And when the pregnant she-camels shall be neglected

81:5

وَإِذَا wa-idha And when ٱلۡوُحُوشُ al-wuhushu the wild beasts حُشِرَتۡ hushirat are gathered ٥

wa-idha al-wuhushu hushirat
— Transliteration

And when the wild beasts shall be gathered together

81:6

وَإِذَا wa-idha And when ٱلۡبِحَارُ al-biharu the seas سُجِّرَتۡ sujjirat are made to overflow ٦

wa-idha al-biharu sujjirat
— Transliteration

And when the seas shall become as blazing Fire or shall overflow

81:7

وَإِذَا wa-idha And when ٱلنُّفُوسُ al-nufusu the souls زُوِّجَتۡ zuwwijat are paired ٧

wa-idha al-nufusu zuwwijat
— Transliteration

And when the souls shall be joined with their bodies
— English - Hilali & Khan

81:8

وَإِذَا wa-idha And when ٱلۡمَوۡءُۥدَةُ al-mawudatu the female infant buried alive سُئِلَتۡ su-ilat is asked ٨

wa-idha al-mawudatu su-ilat
— Transliteration

And when the female (infant) buried alive (as the pagan Arabs used to do) shall be questioned

81:9

بِأَيِّ bi-ayyi For what ذَنۢبٖ dhanbin sin قُتِلَتۡ qutilat she was killed ٩

bi-ayyi dhanbin qutilat
— Transliteration

For what sin she was killed

81:10

وَإِذَا wa-idha And when ٱلصُّحُفُ al-suhufu the pages نُشِرَتۡ nushirat are laid open ١٠

wa-idha al-suhufu nushirat
— Transliteration

And when the written pages of deeds (good and bad) of every person shall be laid open
