88:1
هَلۡ hal Has أَتَىٰكَ ataka (there) come to you حَدِيثُ hadithu (the) news ٱلۡغَٰشِيَةِ al-ghashiyati (of) the Overwhelming? ١
hal ataka hadithu al-ghashiyati
— Transliteration
Has there come to you the narration of the overwhelming (i.e. the Day of Resurrection)

88:2
وُجُوهٞ wujuhun Faces يَوۡمَئِذٍ yawma-idhin that Day خَٰشِعَةٌ khashi'atun (will be) humbled ٢
wujuhun yawma-idhin khashi'atun
— Transliteration
Some faces, that Day, will be humiliated (in the Hell-fire, i.e. the faces of all disbelievers, Jews and Christians, etc)

88:3
عَامِلَةٞ amilatun Laboring نَّاصِبَةٞ nasibatun exhausted ٣
amilatun nasibatun
— Transliteration
Labouring (hard in the worldly life by worshipping others besides Allah), weary (in the Hereafter with humility and disgrace)

88:4
تَصۡلَىٰ tasla They will burn نَارًا naran (in) a Fire حَامِيَةٗ hamiyatan intensely hot ٤

— Transliteration
They will enter in the hot blazing Fire

88:5
تُسۡقَىٰ tus'qa They will be given to drink مِنۡ min from عَيۡنٍ aynin a spring ءَانِيَةٖ aniyatin boiling ٥
tus'qa min aynin aniyatin
— Transliteration
They will be given to drink from a boiling spring

88:6
لَّيۡسَ laysa Not is لَهُمۡ lahum for them طَعَامٌ ta'amun food إِلَّا illa except مِن min from ضَرِيعٖ dari'in a bitter thorny plant ٦
laysa lahum ta'amun illa min dari'in
— Transliteration
No food will there be for them but a poisonous thorny plant

88:7
لَّا la Not يُسۡمِنُ yus'minu it nourishes وَلَا wala and not يُغۡنِي yugh'ni it avails مِن min from جُوعٖ ju'in hunger ٧
la yus'minu wala yugh'ni min ju'in
— Transliteration
Which will neither nourish nor avail against hunger

88:8
وُجُوهٞ wujuhun Faces يَوۡمَئِذٖ yawma-idhin that Day نَّاعِمَةٞ na'imatun (will be) joyful ٨
wujuhun yawma-idhin na'imatun
— Transliteration
(Other) faces, that Day, will be joyful

لِّسَعۡيِهَا lisa'yiha With their effort رَاضِيَةٞ radiyatun satisfied ٩
lisa'yiha radiyatun
— Transliteration
Glad with their endeavour (for their good deeds which they did in this world, along with the true Faith of Islamic Monotheism)

فِي fi In جَنَّةٍ jannatin a garden عَالِيَةٖ aliyatin elevated ١٠

In a lofty Paradise
