12:1
الٓرۚ alif-lam-ra Alif Laam Ra تِلۡكَ til'ka These ءَايَٰتُ ayatu (are the) Verses ٱلۡكِتَٰبِ al-kitabi (of) the Book ٱلۡمُبِينِ al-mubini [the] clear ١
alif-lam-ra til'ka ayatu al-kitabi al-mubini
— Transliteration
Alif-Lam-Ra. [These letters are one of the miracles of the Quran, and none but Allah (Alone) knows their meanings]. These are the Verses of the Clear Book (the Quran that makes clear the legal and illegal things, legal laws, a guidance and a blessing)

12:2
إِنَّآ inna Indeed We أَنزَلۡنَٰهُ anzalnahu We have sent it down قُرۡءَٰنًا qur'anan (as) a Quran عَرَبِيّٗا arabiyyan in Arabic لَّعَلَّكُمۡ la'allakum so that you may تَعۡقِلُونَ ta'qiluna understand ٢
inna anzalnahu qur'anan arabiyyan la'allakum ta'qiluna
— Transliteration
Verily, We have sent it down as an Arabic Quran in order that you may understand

12:3
نَحۡنُ nahnu We نَقُصُّ naqussu relate عَلَيۡكَ alayka to you أَحۡسَنَ ahsana the best ٱلۡقَصَصِ al-qasasi of the narrations بِمَآ bima in what أَوۡحَيۡنَآ awhayna We have revealed إِلَيۡكَ ilayka to you هَٰذَا hadha (of) this ٱلۡقُرۡءَانَ al-qur'ana the Quran وَإِن wa-in although كُنتَ kunta you were مِن min before it قَبۡلِهِۦ qablihi before it لَمِنَ lamina surely among ٱلۡغَٰفِلِينَ al-ghafilina the unaware ٣
nahnu naqussu alayka ahsana al-qasasi bima awhayna ilayka hadha al-qur'ana wa-in kunta min qablihi lamina al-ghafilina
— Transliteration
We relate unto you (Muhammad SAW) the best of stories through Our Revelations unto you, of this Quran. And before this (i.e. before the coming of Divine Inspiration to you), you were among those who knew nothing about it (the Quran)

12:4
إِذۡ idh When قَالَ qala said يُوسُفُ yusufu Yusuf لِأَبِيهِ li-abihi to his father يَٰٓأَبَتِ yaabati O my father! إِنِّي inni Indeed I رَأَيۡتُ ra-aytu I saw أَحَدَ ahada eleven عَشَرَ ashara eleven كَوۡكَبٗا kawkaban stars وَٱلشَّمۡسَ wal-shamsa and the sun وَٱلۡقَمَرَ wal-qamara and the moon رَأَيۡتُهُمۡ ra-aytuhum I saw them لِي li to me سَٰجِدِينَ sajidina prostrating ٤
idh qala yusufu li-abihi yaabati inni ra-aytu ahada ashara kawkaban wal-shamsa wal-qamara ra-aytuhum li sajidina
— Transliteration
(Remember) when Yusuf (Joseph) said to his father: "O my father! Verily, I saw (in a dream) eleven stars and the sun and the moon, I saw them prostrating themselves to me

12:5
قَالَ qala He said يَٰبُنَيَّ yabunayya O my son! لَا la (Do) not تَقۡصُصۡ taqsus relate رُءۡيَاكَ ru'yaka your vision عَلَىٰٓ ala to إِخۡوَتِكَ ikh'watika your brothers فَيَكِيدُواْ fayakidu lest they plan لَكَ laka against you كَيۡدًاۖ kaydan a plot إِنَّ inna Indeed ٱلشَّيۡطَٰنَ al-shaytana the Shaitaan لِلۡإِنسَٰنِ lil'insani (is) to man عَدُوّٞ aduwwun an enemy مُّبِينٞ mubinun open ٥
qala yabunayya la taqsus ru'yaka ala ikh'watika fayakidu laka kaydan inna al-shaytana lil'insani aduwwun mubinun
— Transliteration
He (the father) said: "O my son! Relate not your vision to your brothers, lest they arrange a plot against you. Verily! Shaitan (Satan) is to man an open enemy

12:6
وَكَذَٰلِكَ wakadhalika And thus يَجۡتَبِيكَ yajtabika will choose you رَبُّكَ rabbuka your Lord وَيُعَلِّمُكَ wayu'allimuka and will teach you مِن min of تَأۡوِيلِ tawili (the) interpretation ٱلۡأَحَادِيثِ al-ahadithi (of) the narratives وَيُتِمُّ wayutimmu and complete نِعۡمَتَهُۥ ni'matahu His Favor عَلَيۡكَ alayka on you وَعَلَىٰٓ wa'ala and on ءَالِ ali (the) family يَعۡقُوبَ ya'quba (of) Yaqub كَمَآ kama as أَتَمَّهَا atammaha He completed it عَلَىٰٓ ala on أَبَوَيۡكَ abawayka your two forefathers مِن min before قَبۡلُ qablu before إِبۡرَٰهِيمَ ib'rahima Ibrahim وَإِسۡحَٰقَۚ wa-is'haqa and Isaac إِنَّ inna Indeed رَبَّكَ rabbaka your Lord عَلِيمٌ alimun (is) AllKnower حَكِيمٞ hakimun AllWise ٦
wakadhalika yajtabika rabbuka wayu'allimuka min tawili al-ahadithi wayutimmu ni'matahu alayka wa'ala ali ya'quba kama atammaha ala abawayka min qablu ib'rahima wa-is'haqa inna rabbaka alimun hakimun
— Transliteration
Thus will your Lord choose you and teach you the interpretation of dreams (and other things) and perfect His Favour on you and on the offspring of Ya'qub (Jacob), as He perfected it on your fathers, Ibrahim (Abraham) and Ishaque (Isaac) aforetime! Verily, your Lord is All-Knowing, All-Wise

12:7
۞لَّقَدۡ laqad Certainly كَانَ kana were فِي fi in يُوسُفَ yusufa Yusuf وَإِخۡوَتِهِۦٓ wa-ikh'watihi and his brothers ءَايَٰتٞ ayatun signs لِّلسَّآئِلِينَ lilssailina for those who ask ٧
laqad kana fi yusufa wa-ikh'watihi ayatun lilssailina
— Transliteration
Verily, in Yusuf (Joseph) and his brethren, there were Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.) for those who ask

12:8
إِذۡ idh When قَالُواْ qalu they said لَيُوسُفُ layusufu Surely Yusuf وَأَخُوهُ wa-akhuhu and his brother أَحَبُّ ahabbu (are) more beloved إِلَىٰٓ ila to أَبِينَا abina our father مِنَّا minna than we وَنَحۡنُ wanahnu while we عُصۡبَةٌ us'batun (are) a group إِنَّ inna Indeed أَبَانَا abana our father لَفِي lafi (is) surely in ضَلَٰلٖ dalalin an error مُّبِينٍ mubinin clear ٨
idh qalu layusufu wa-akhuhu ahabbu ila abina minna wanahnu us'batun inna abana lafi dalalin mubinin
— Transliteration
When they said: "Truly, Yusuf (Joseph) and his brother (Benjamin) are loved more by our father than we, but we are 'Usbah (a strong group). Really, our father is in a plain error

12:9
ٱقۡتُلُواْ uq'tulu Kill يُوسُفَ yusufa Yusuf أَوِ awi or ٱطۡرَحُوهُ it'rahuhu cast him أَرۡضٗا ardan (to) a land يَخۡلُ yakhlu so will be free لَكُمۡ lakum for you وَجۡهُ wajhu (the) face أَبِيكُمۡ abikum (of) your father وَتَكُونُواْ watakunu and you will be مِنۢ min after that بَعۡدِهِۦ ba'dihi after that قَوۡمٗا qawman a people صَٰلِحِينَ salihina righteous ٩
uq'tulu yusufa awi it'rahuhu ardan yakhlu lakum wajhu abikum watakunu min ba'dihi qawman salihina
— Transliteration
Kill Yusuf (Joseph) or cast him out to some (other) land, so that the favour of your father may be given to you alone, and after that you will be righteous folk (by intending repentance before committing the sin)

12:10
قَالَ qala Said قَآئِلٞ qailun a speaker مِّنۡهُمۡ min'hum among them لَا la (Do) not تَقۡتُلُواْ taqtulu kill يُوسُفَ yusufa Yusuf وَأَلۡقُوهُ wa-alquhu but throw him فِي fi in غَيَٰبَتِ ghayabati the bottom ٱلۡجُبِّ al-jubi (of) the well يَلۡتَقِطۡهُ yaltaqit'hu will pick him بَعۡضُ ba'du some ٱلسَّيَّارَةِ al-sayarati [the] caravan إِن in if كُنتُمۡ kuntum you are فَٰعِلِينَ fa'ilina doing ١٠
qala qailun min'hum la taqtulu yusufa wa-alquhu fi ghayabati al-jubi yaltaqit'hu ba'du al-sayarati in kuntum fa'ilina
— Transliteration
One from among them said: "Kill not Yusuf (Joseph), but if you must do something, throw him down to the bottom of a well, he will be picked up by some caravan of travellers
