الصَّمَدُٱلصَّمَدُl-ṣamaduthe Eternal the Absoluteاللَّهُٱللَّهُal-lahuAllah
Alif-Lam-Ra. [These letters are one of the miracles of the Quran, and none but Allah (Alone) knows their meanings]. These are the Verses of the Clear Book (the Quran that makes clear the legal and illegal things, legal laws, a guidance and a blessing) — English - Hilali & Khan
12:2
إِنَّآinnaIndeed WeأَنزَلۡنَٰهُanzalnahuWe have sent it downقُرۡءَٰنًاqur'anan(as) a Quranعَرَبِيّٗاarabiyyanin Arabicلَّعَلَّكُمۡla'allakumso that you mayتَعۡقِلُونَta'qilunaunderstand٢
Verily, We have sent it down as an Arabic Quran in order that you may understand — English - Hilali & Khan
12:3
نَحۡنُnahnuWeنَقُصُّnaqussurelateعَلَيۡكَalaykato youأَحۡسَنَahsanathe bestٱلۡقَصَصِal-qasasiof the narrationsبِمَآbimain whatأَوۡحَيۡنَآawhaynaWe have revealedإِلَيۡكَilaykato youهَٰذَاhadha(of) thisٱلۡقُرۡءَانَal-qur'anathe Quranوَإِنwa-inalthoughكُنتَkuntayou wereمِنminbefore itقَبۡلِهِۦqablihibefore itلَمِنَlaminasurely amongٱلۡغَٰفِلِينَal-ghafilinathe unaware٣
nahnu naqussu alayka ahsana al-qasasi bima awhayna ilayka hadha al-qur'ana wa-in kunta min qablihi lamina al-ghafilina — Transliteration
We relate unto you (Muhammad SAW) the best of stories through Our Revelations unto you, of this Quran. And before this (i.e. before the coming of Divine Inspiration to you), you were among those who knew nothing about it (the Quran) — English - Hilali & Khan
12:4
إِذۡidhWhenقَالَqalasaidيُوسُفُyusufuYusufلِأَبِيهِli-abihito his fatherيَٰٓأَبَتِyaabatiO my father!إِنِّيinniIndeed Iرَأَيۡتُra-aytuI sawأَحَدَahadaelevenعَشَرَasharaelevenكَوۡكَبٗاkawkabanstarsوَٱلشَّمۡسَwal-shamsaand the sunوَٱلۡقَمَرَwal-qamaraand the moonرَأَيۡتُهُمۡra-aytuhumI saw themلِيlito meسَٰجِدِينَsajidinaprostrating٤
idh qala yusufu li-abihi yaabati inni ra-aytu ahada ashara kawkaban wal-shamsa wal-qamara ra-aytuhum li sajidina — Transliteration
(Remember) when Yusuf (Joseph) said to his father: "O my father! Verily, I saw (in a dream) eleven stars and the sun and the moon, I saw them prostrating themselves to me — English - Hilali & Khan

قَالَqalaHe saidيَٰبُنَيَّyabunayyaO my son!لَاla(Do) notتَقۡصُصۡtaqsusrelateرُءۡيَاكَru'yakayour visionعَلَىٰٓalatoإِخۡوَتِكَikh'watikayour brothersفَيَكِيدُواْfayakidulest they planلَكَlakaagainst youكَيۡدًاۖkaydana plotإِنَّinnaIndeedٱلشَّيۡطَٰنَal-shaytanathe Shaitaanلِلۡإِنسَٰنِlil'insani(is) to manعَدُوّٞaduwwunan enemyمُّبِينٞmubinunopen٥
qala yabunayya la taqsus ru'yaka ala ikh'watika fayakidu laka kaydan inna al-shaytana lil'insani aduwwun mubinun — Transliteration
He (the father) said: "O my son! Relate not your vision to your brothers, lest they arrange a plot against you. Verily! Shaitan (Satan) is to man an open enemy — English - Hilali & Khan
12:6
وَكَذَٰلِكَwakadhalikaAnd thusيَجۡتَبِيكَyajtabikawill choose youرَبُّكَrabbukayour Lordوَيُعَلِّمُكَwayu'allimukaand will teach youمِنminofتَأۡوِيلِtawili(the) interpretationٱلۡأَحَادِيثِal-ahadithi(of) the narrativesوَيُتِمُّwayutimmuand completeنِعۡمَتَهُۥni'matahuHis Favorعَلَيۡكَalaykaon youوَعَلَىٰٓwa'alaand onءَالِali(the) familyيَعۡقُوبَya'quba(of) YaqubكَمَآkamaasأَتَمَّهَاatammahaHe completed itعَلَىٰٓalaonأَبَوَيۡكَabawaykayour two forefathersمِنminbefore قَبۡلُqablubefore إِبۡرَٰهِيمَib'rahimaIbrahimوَإِسۡحَٰقَۚwa-is'haqaand IsaacإِنَّinnaIndeedرَبَّكَrabbakayour Lordعَلِيمٌalimun(is) AllKnowerحَكِيمٞhakimunAllWise٦
wakadhalika yajtabika rabbuka wayu'allimuka min tawili al-ahadithi wayutimmu ni'matahu alayka wa'ala ali ya'quba kama atammaha ala abawayka min qablu ib'rahima wa-is'haqa inna rabbaka alimun hakimun — Transliteration
Thus will your Lord choose you and teach you the interpretation of dreams (and other things) and perfect His Favour on you and on the offspring of Ya'qub (Jacob), as He perfected it on your fathers, Ibrahim (Abraham) and Ishaque (Isaac) aforetime! Verily, your Lord is All-Knowing, All-Wise — English - Hilali & Khan
12:7
۞لَّقَدۡlaqadCertainlyكَانَkanawereفِيfiinيُوسُفَyusufaYusufوَإِخۡوَتِهِۦٓwa-ikh'watihiand his brothersءَايَٰتٞayatunsignsلِّلسَّآئِلِينَlilssailinafor those who ask٧
laqad kana fi yusufa wa-ikh'watihi ayatun lilssailina — Transliteration
Verily, in Yusuf (Joseph) and his brethren, there were Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.) for those who ask — English - Hilali & Khan
12:8
إِذۡidhWhenقَالُواْqaluthey saidلَيُوسُفُlayusufuSurely Yusufوَأَخُوهُwa-akhuhuand his brotherأَحَبُّahabbu(are) more belovedإِلَىٰٓilatoأَبِينَاabinaour fatherمِنَّاminnathan weوَنَحۡنُwanahnuwhile weعُصۡبَةٌus'batun(are) a groupإِنَّinnaIndeedأَبَانَاabanaour fatherلَفِيlafi(is) surely inضَلَٰلٖdalalinan errorمُّبِينٍmubininclear٨
idh qalu layusufu wa-akhuhu ahabbu ila abina minna wanahnu us'batun inna abana lafi dalalin mubinin — Transliteration
When they said: "Truly, Yusuf (Joseph) and his brother (Benjamin) are loved more by our father than we, but we are 'Usbah (a strong group). Really, our father is in a plain error — English - Hilali & Khan
12:9
ٱقۡتُلُواْuq'tuluKillيُوسُفَyusufaYusufأَوِawiorٱطۡرَحُوهُit'rahuhucast himأَرۡضٗاardan(to) a landيَخۡلُyakhluso will be freeلَكُمۡlakumfor youوَجۡهُwajhu(the) faceأَبِيكُمۡabikum(of) your fatherوَتَكُونُواْwatakunuand you will beمِنۢminafter thatبَعۡدِهِۦba'dihiafter thatقَوۡمٗاqawmana peopleصَٰلِحِينَsalihinarighteous٩
Kill Yusuf (Joseph) or cast him out to some (other) land, so that the favour of your father may be given to you alone, and after that you will be righteous folk (by intending repentance before committing the sin) — English - Hilali & Khan
qala qailun min'hum la taqtulu yusufa wa-alquhu fi ghayabati al-jubi yaltaqit'hu ba'du al-sayarati in kuntum fa'ilina — Transliteration
One from among them said: "Kill not Yusuf (Joseph), but if you must do something, throw him down to the bottom of a well, he will be picked up by some caravan of travellers — English - Hilali & Khan
