58:1
قَدۡ qad Indeed سَمِعَ sami'a Allah has heard ٱللَّهُ al-lahu Allah has heard قَوۡلَ qawla (the) speech ٱلَّتِي allati (of one) who تُجَٰدِلُكَ tujadiluka disputes with you فِي fi concerning زَوۡجِهَا zawjiha her husband وَتَشۡتَكِيٓ watashtaki and she directs her complaint إِلَى ila to ٱللَّهِ al-lahi Allah وَٱللَّهُ wal-lahu And Allah يَسۡمَعُ yasma'u hears تَحَاوُرَكُمَآۚ tahawurakuma (the) dialogue of both of you إِنَّ inna Indeed ٱللَّهَ al-laha Allah سَمِيعُۢ sami'un (is) AllHearer بَصِيرٌ basirun AllSeer ١
qad sami'a al-lahu qawla allati tujadiluka fi zawjiha watashtaki ila al-lahi wal-lahu yasma'u tahawurakuma inna al-laha sami'un basirun
— Transliteration
Indeed Allah has heard the statement of her (Khaulah bint Tha'labah) that disputes with you (O Muhammad SAW) concerning her husband (Aus bin As-Samit), and complains to Allah. And Allah hears the argument between you both. Verily, Allah is All-Hearer, All-Seer

58:2
ٱلَّذِينَ alladhina Those who يُظَٰهِرُونَ yuzahiruna pronounce zihar مِنكُم minkum among you مِّن min [from] نِّسَآئِهِم nisaihim (to) their wives مَّا ma not هُنَّ hunna they أُمَّهَٰتِهِمۡۖ ummahatihim (are) their mothers إِنۡ in Not أُمَّهَٰتُهُمۡ ummahatuhum (are) their mothers إِلَّا illa except ٱلَّٰٓـِٔي allai those who وَلَدۡنَهُمۡۚ waladnahum gave them birth وَإِنَّهُمۡ wa-innahum And indeed they لَيَقُولُونَ layaquluna surely say مُنكَرٗا munkaran an evil مِّنَ mina [of] ٱلۡقَوۡلِ al-qawli [the] word وَزُورٗاۚ wazuran and a lie وَإِنَّ wa-inna But indeed ٱللَّهَ al-laha Allah لَعَفُوٌّ la'afuwwun (is) surely OftPardoning غَفُورٞ ghafurun OftForgiving ٢
alladhina yuzahiruna minkum min nisaihim ma hunna ummahatihim in ummahatuhum illa allai waladnahum wa-innahum layaquluna munkaran mina al-qawli wazuran wa-inna al-laha la'afuwwun ghafurun
— Transliteration
Those among you who make their wives unlawful (Az-Zihar) to them by saying to them "You are like my mother's back." They cannot be their mothers. None can be their mothers except those who gave them birth. And verily, they utter an ill word and a lie. And verily, Allah is Oft-Pardoning, Oft-Forgiving

58:3
وَٱلَّذِينَ wa-alladhina And those who يُظَٰهِرُونَ yuzahiruna pronounce zihar مِن min [from] نِّسَآئِهِمۡ nisaihim (to) their wives ثُمَّ thumma then يَعُودُونَ ya'uduna go back لِمَا lima on what قَالُواْ qalu they said فَتَحۡرِيرُ fatahriru then freeing رَقَبَةٖ raqabatin (of) a slave مِّن min before قَبۡلِ qabli before أَن an [that] يَتَمَآسَّاۚ yatamassa they touch each other ذَٰلِكُمۡ dhalikum That تُوعَظُونَ tu'azuna you are admonished بِهِۦۚ bihi to it وَٱللَّهُ wal-lahu And Allah بِمَا bima of what تَعۡمَلُونَ ta'maluna you do خَبِيرٞ khabirun (is) AllAware ٣
wa-alladhina yuzahiruna min nisaihim thumma ya'uduna lima qalu fatahriru raqabatin min qabli an yatamassa dhalikum tu'azuna bihi wal-lahu bima ta'maluna khabirun
— Transliteration
And those who make unlawful to them (their wives) (by Az-Zihar) and wish to free themselves from what they uttered, (the penalty) in that case (is) the freeing of a slave before they touch each other. That is an admonition to you (so that you may not return to such an ill thing). And Allah is All-Aware of what you do

58:4
فَمَن faman Then whoever لَّمۡ lam (does) not يَجِدۡ yajid find فَصِيَامُ fasiyamu then fasting شَهۡرَيۡنِ shahrayni (for) two months مُتَتَابِعَيۡنِ mutatabi'ayni consecutively مِن min before قَبۡلِ qabli before أَن an [that] يَتَمَآسَّاۖ yatamassa they both touch each other فَمَن faman But (he) who لَّمۡ lam not يَسۡتَطِعۡ yastati' is able فَإِطۡعَامُ fa-it'amu then (the) feeding سِتِّينَ sittina (of) sixty مِسۡكِينٗاۚ mis'kinan needy one(s) ذَٰلِكَ dhalika That لِتُؤۡمِنُواْ litu'minu so that you may believe بِٱللَّهِ bil-lahi in Allah وَرَسُولِهِۦۚ warasulihi and His Messenger وَتِلۡكَ watil'ka and these حُدُودُ hududu (are the) limits ٱللَّهِۗ al-lahi (of) Allah وَلِلۡكَٰفِرِينَ walil'kafirina and for the disbelievers عَذَابٌ adhabun (is) a punishment أَلِيمٌ alimun painful ٤
faman lam yajid fasiyamu shahrayni mutatabi'ayni min qabli an yatamassa faman lam yastati' fa-it'amu sittina mis'kinan dhalika litu'minu bil-lahi warasulihi watil'ka hududu al-lahi walil'kafirina adhabun alimun
— Transliteration
And he who finds not (the money for freeing a slave) must fast two successive months before they both touch each other. And for him who is unable to do so, he should feed sixty of Miskin (poor). That is in order that you may have perfect Faith in Allah and His Messenger. These are the limits set by Allah. And for disbelievers, there is a painful torment

58:5
إِنَّ inna Indeed ٱلَّذِينَ alladhina those who يُحَآدُّونَ yuhadduna oppose ٱللَّهَ al-laha Allah وَرَسُولَهُۥ warasulahu and His Messenger كُبِتُواْ kubitu (will) be disgraced كَمَا kama as كُبِتَ kubita were disgraced ٱلَّذِينَ alladhina those مِن min before them قَبۡلِهِمۡۚ qablihim before them وَقَدۡ waqad And certainly أَنزَلۡنَآ anzalna We have sent down ءَايَٰتِۭ ayatin Verses بَيِّنَٰتٖۚ bayyinatin clear وَلِلۡكَٰفِرِينَ walil'kafirina And for the disbelievers عَذَابٞ adhabun (is) a punishment مُّهِينٞ muhinun humiliating ٥
inna alladhina yuhadduna al-laha warasulahu kubitu kama kubita alladhina min qablihim waqad anzalna ayatin bayyinatin walil'kafirina adhabun muhinun
— Transliteration
Verily, those who oppose Allah and His Messenger (Muhammad SAW) will be disgraced, as those before them (among the past nation), were disgraced. And We have sent down clear Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.). And for the disbelievers is a disgracing torment

58:6
يَوۡمَ yawma (On the) Day يَبۡعَثُهُمُ yab'athuhumu (when) Allah will raise them ٱللَّهُ al-lahu (when) Allah will raise them جَمِيعٗا jami'an all فَيُنَبِّئُهُم fayunabbi-uhum and inform them بِمَا bima of what عَمِلُوٓاْۚ amilu they did أَحۡصَىٰهُ ahsahu Allah has recorded it ٱللَّهُ al-lahu Allah has recorded it وَنَسُوهُۚ wanasuhu while they forgot it وَٱللَّهُ wal-lahu And Allah عَلَىٰ ala (is) over كُلِّ kulli all شَيۡءٖ shayin things شَهِيدٌ shahidun a Witness ٦
yawma yab'athuhumu al-lahu jami'an fayunabbi-uhum bima amilu ahsahu al-lahu wanasuhu wal-lahu ala kulli shayin shahidun
— Transliteration
On the Day when Allah will resurrect them all together (i.e. the Day of Resurrection) and inform them of what they did. Allah has kept account of it, while they have forgotten it. And Allah is Witness over all things

58:7
أَلَمۡ alam Do not تَرَ tara you see أَنَّ anna that ٱللَّهَ al-laha Allah يَعۡلَمُ ya'lamu knows مَا ma whatever فِي fi (is) in ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ al-samawati the heavens وَمَا wama and whatever فِي fi (is) in ٱلۡأَرۡضِۖ al-ardi the earth? مَا ma Not يَكُونُ yakunu there is مِن min any نَّجۡوَىٰ najwa secret counsel ثَلَٰثَةٍ thalathatin (of) three إِلَّا illa but هُوَ huwa He (is) رَابِعُهُمۡ rabi'uhum (the) fourth of them وَلَا wala and not خَمۡسَةٍ khamsatin five إِلَّا illa but هُوَ huwa He (is) سَادِسُهُمۡ sadisuhum (the) sixth of them وَلَآ wala and not أَدۡنَىٰ adna less مِن min than ذَٰلِكَ dhalika that وَلَآ wala and not أَكۡثَرَ akthara more إِلَّا illa but هُوَ huwa He مَعَهُمۡ ma'ahum (is) with them أَيۡنَ ayna wherever مَا ma wherever كَانُواْۖ kanu they are ثُمَّ thumma Then يُنَبِّئُهُم yunabbi-uhum He will inform them بِمَا bima of what عَمِلُواْ amilu they did يَوۡمَ yawma (on the) Day ٱلۡقِيَٰمَةِۚ al-qiyamati (of) the Resurrection إِنَّ inna Indeed ٱللَّهَ al-laha Allah بِكُلِّ bikulli of every شَيۡءٍ shayin thing عَلِيمٌ alimun (is) AllKnower ٧
alam tara anna al-laha ya'lamu ma fi al-samawati wama fi al-ardi ma yakunu min najwa thalathatin illa huwa rabi'uhum wala khamsatin illa huwa sadisuhum wala adna min dhalika wala akthara illa huwa ma'ahum ayna ma kanu thumma yunabbi-uhum bima amilu yawma al-qiyamati inna al-laha bikulli shayin alimun
— Transliteration
Have you not seen that Allah knows whatsoever is in the heavens and whatsoever is on the earth? There is no Najwa (secret counsel) of three, but He is their fourth (with His Knowledge, while He Himself is over the Throne, over the seventh heaven), nor of five but He is their sixth (with His Knowledge), not of less than that or more, but He is with them (with His Knowledge) wheresoever they may be; and afterwards on the Day of Resurrection, He will inform them of what they did. Verily, Allah is the All-Knower of everything

58:8
أَلَمۡ alam Do not تَرَ tara you see إِلَى ila [to] ٱلَّذِينَ alladhina those who نُهُواْ nuhu were forbidden عَنِ ani from ٱلنَّجۡوَىٰ al-najwa secret counsels ثُمَّ thumma then يَعُودُونَ ya'uduna they return لِمَا lima to what نُهُواْ nuhu they were forbidden عَنۡهُ anhu from [it] وَيَتَنَٰجَوۡنَ wayatanajawna and they hold secret counsels بِٱلۡإِثۡمِ bil-ith'mi for sin وَٱلۡعُدۡوَٰنِ wal-'ud'wani and aggression وَمَعۡصِيَتِ wama'siyati and disobedience ٱلرَّسُولِۖ al-rasuli (to) the Messenger? وَإِذَا wa-idha And when جَآءُوكَ jauka they come to you حَيَّوۡكَ hayyawka they greet you بِمَا bima with what لَمۡ lam not يُحَيِّكَ yuhayyika greets you بِهِ bihi therewith ٱللَّهُ al-lahu Allah وَيَقُولُونَ wayaquluna and they say فِيٓ fi among أَنفُسِهِمۡ anfusihim themselves لَوۡلَا lawla Why (does) not يُعَذِّبُنَا yu'adhibuna Allah punish us ٱللَّهُ al-lahu Allah punish us بِمَا bima for what نَقُولُۚ naqulu we say? حَسۡبُهُمۡ hasbuhum Sufficient (for) them جَهَنَّمُ jahannamu (is) Hell يَصۡلَوۡنَهَاۖ yaslawnaha they will burn in it فَبِئۡسَ fabi'sa and worst is ٱلۡمَصِيرُ al-masiru the destination ٨
alam tara ila alladhina nuhu ani al-najwa thumma ya'uduna lima nuhu anhu wayatanajawna bil-ith'mi wal-'ud'wani wama'siyati al-rasuli wa-idha jauka hayyawka bima lam yuhayyika bihi al-lahu wayaquluna fi anfusihim lawla yu'adhibuna al-lahu bima naqulu hasbuhum jahannamu yaslawnaha fabi'sa al-masiru
— Transliteration
Have you not seen those who were forbidden to hold secret counsels, and afterwards returned to that which they had been forbidden, and conspired together for sin and wrong doing and disobedience to the Messenger (Muhammad SAW). And when they come to you, they greet you with a greeting wherewith Allah greets you not, and say within themselves: "Why should Allah punish us not for what we say?" Hell will be sufficient for them, they will burn therein, and worst indeed is that destination

58:9
يَٰٓأَيُّهَا yaayyuha O you who believe! ٱلَّذِينَ alladhina O you who believe! ءَامَنُوٓاْ amanu O you who believe! إِذَا idha When تَنَٰجَيۡتُمۡ tanajaytum you hold secret counsel فَلَا fala then (do) not تَتَنَٰجَوۡاْ tatanajaw hold secret counsel بِٱلۡإِثۡمِ bil-ith'mi for sin وَٱلۡعُدۡوَٰنِ wal-'ud'wani and aggression وَمَعۡصِيَتِ wama'siyati and disobedience ٱلرَّسُولِ al-rasuli (to) the Messenger وَتَنَٰجَوۡاْ watanajaw but hold secret counsel بِٱلۡبِرِّ bil-biri for righteousness وَٱلتَّقۡوَىٰۖ wal-taqwa and piety وَٱتَّقُواْ wa-ittaqu And fear ٱللَّهَ al-laha Allah ٱلَّذِيٓ alladhi the One Who إِلَيۡهِ ilayhi to Him تُحۡشَرُونَ tuh'sharuna you will be gathered ٩
yaayyuha alladhina amanu idha tanajaytum fala tatanajaw bil-ith'mi wal-'ud'wani wama'siyati al-rasuli watanajaw bil-biri wal-taqwa wa-ittaqu al-laha alladhi ilayhi tuh'sharuna
— Transliteration
O you who believe! When you hold secret counsel, do it not for sin and wrong-doing, and disobedience towards the Messenger (Muhammad SAW) but do it for Al-Birr (righteousness) and Taqwa (virtues and piety); and fear Allah unto Whom you shall be gathered

58:10
إِنَّمَا innama Only ٱلنَّجۡوَىٰ al-najwa the secret counsels مِنَ mina (are) from ٱلشَّيۡطَٰنِ al-shaytani the Shaitaan لِيَحۡزُنَ liyahzuna that he may grieve ٱلَّذِينَ alladhina those who ءَامَنُواْ amanu believe وَلَيۡسَ walaysa but not بِضَآرِّهِمۡ bidarrihim he (can) harm them شَيۡـًٔا shayan (in) anything إِلَّا illa except بِإِذۡنِ bi-idh'ni by Allah's permission ٱللَّهِۚ al-lahi by Allah's permission وَعَلَى wa'ala And upon ٱللَّهِ al-lahi Allah فَلۡيَتَوَكَّلِ falyatawakkali let put (their) trust ٱلۡمُؤۡمِنُونَ al-mu'minuna the believers ١٠
innama al-najwa mina al-shaytani liyahzuna alladhina amanu walaysa bidarrihim shayan illa bi-idh'ni al-lahi wa'ala al-lahi falyatawakkali al-mu'minuna
— Transliteration
Secret counsels (conspiracies) are only from Shaitan (Satan), in order that he may cause grief to the believers. But he cannot harm them in the least, except as Allah permits, and in Allah let the believers put their trust
