38:1
صٓۚ sad Saad وَٱلۡقُرۡءَانِ wal-qur'ani By the Quran ذِي dhi full (of) reminder ٱلذِّكۡرِ al-dhik'ri full (of) reminder ١
sad wal-qur'ani dhi al-dhik'ri
— Transliteration
Sad [These letters (Sad etc.) are one of the miracles of the Quran and none but Allah (Alone) knows their meanings]. By the Quran full of reminding

38:2
بَلِ bali Nay ٱلَّذِينَ alladhina those who كَفَرُواْ kafaru disbelieve فِي fi (are) in عِزَّةٖ izzatin selfglory وَشِقَاقٖ washiqaqin and opposition ٢
bali alladhina kafaru fi izzatin washiqaqin
— Transliteration
Nay, those who desbelieve are in false pride and opposition

38:3
كَمۡ kam How many أَهۡلَكۡنَا ahlakna We destroyed مِن min before them قَبۡلِهِم qablihim before them مِّن min of قَرۡنٖ qarnin a generation فَنَادَواْ fanadaw then they called out وَّلَاتَ walata when there (was) no longer حِينَ hina time مَنَاصٖ manasin (for) escape ٣
kam ahlakna min qablihim min qarnin fanadaw walata hina manasin
— Transliteration
How many a generation We have destroyed before them, and they cried out when there was no longer time for escape

38:4
وَعَجِبُوٓاْ wa'ajibu And they wonder أَن an that جَآءَهُم jaahum has come to them مُّنذِرٞ mundhirun a warner مِّنۡهُمۡۖ min'hum from themselves وَقَالَ waqala And said ٱلۡكَٰفِرُونَ al-kafiruna the disbelievers هَٰذَا hadha This سَٰحِرٞ sahirun (is) a magician كَذَّابٌ kadhabun a liar ٤
wa'ajibu an jaahum mundhirun min'hum waqala al-kafiruna hadha sahirun kadhabun
— Transliteration
And they (Arab pagans) wonder that a warner (Prophet Muhammad SAW) has come to them from among themselves! And the disbelievers say: "This (Prophet Muhammad SAW) is a sorcerer, a liar

38:5
أَجَعَلَ aja'ala Has he made ٱلۡأٓلِهَةَ al-alihata the gods إِلَٰهٗا ilahan (into) one god? وَٰحِدًاۖ wahidan (into) one god? إِنَّ inna Indeed هَٰذَا hadha this لَشَيۡءٌ lashayon (is) certainly a thing عُجَابٞ ujabun curious ٥
aja'ala al-alihata ilahan wahidan inna hadha lashayon ujabun
— Transliteration
Has he made the aliha (gods) (all) into One Ilah (God - Allah). Verily, this is a curious thing

38:6
وَٱنطَلَقَ wa-intalaqa And went forth ٱلۡمَلَأُ al-mala-u the chiefs مِنۡهُمۡ min'hum among them أَنِ ani that ٱمۡشُواْ im'shu Continue وَٱصۡبِرُواْ wa-is'biru and be patient عَلَىٰٓ ala over ءَالِهَتِكُمۡۖ alihatikum your gods إِنَّ inna Indeed هَٰذَا hadha this لَشَيۡءٞ lashayon (is) certainly a thing يُرَادُ yuradu intended ٦
wa-intalaqa al-mala-u min'hum ani im'shu wa-is'biru ala alihatikum inna hadha lashayon yuradu
— Transliteration
And the leaders among them went about (saying): "Go on, and remain constant to your aliha (gods)! Verily, This is a thing designed (against you)

38:7
مَا ma Not سَمِعۡنَا sami'na we heard بِهَٰذَا bihadha of this فِي fi in ٱلۡمِلَّةِ al-milati the religion ٱلۡأٓخِرَةِ al-akhirati the last إِنۡ in Not هَٰذَآ hadha (is) this إِلَّا illa but ٱخۡتِلَٰقٌ ikh'tilaqun a fabrication ٧
ma sami'na bihadha fi al-milati al-akhirati in hadha illa ikh'tilaqun
— Transliteration
We have not heard (the like) of this among the people of these later days. This is nothing but an invention

38:8
أَءُنزِلَ a-unzila Has been revealed عَلَيۡهِ alayhi to him ٱلذِّكۡرُ al-dhik'ru the Message مِنۢ min from بَيۡنِنَاۚ baynina among us? بَلۡ bal Nay هُمۡ hum They فِي fi (are) in شَكّٖ shakkin doubt مِّن min about ذِكۡرِيۚ dhik'ri My Message بَل bal Nay لَّمَّا lamma not yet يَذُوقُواْ yadhuqu they have tasted عَذَابِ adhabi My punishment ٨
a-unzila alayhi al-dhik'ru min baynina bal hum fi shakkin min dhik'ri bal lamma yadhuqu adhabi
— Transliteration
Has the Reminder been sent down to him (alone) from among us?" Nay! but they are in doubt about My Reminder (this Quran)! Nay, but they have not tasted (My) Torment

38:9
أَمۡ am Or عِندَهُمۡ indahum have they خَزَآئِنُ khazainu (the) treasures رَحۡمَةِ rahmati (of the) Mercy رَبِّكَ rabbika (of) your Lord ٱلۡعَزِيزِ al-'azizi the AllMighty ٱلۡوَهَّابِ al-wahabi the Bestower? ٩
am indahum khazainu rahmati rabbika al-'azizi al-wahabi
— Transliteration
Or have they the treasures of the Mercy of your Lord, the All-Mighty, the Real Bestower

38:10
أَمۡ am Or لَهُم lahum for them مُّلۡكُ mul'ku (is the) dominion ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ al-samawati (of) the heavens وَٱلۡأَرۡضِ wal-ardi and the earth وَمَا wama and whatever بَيۡنَهُمَاۖ baynahuma (is) between them? فَلۡيَرۡتَقُواْ falyartaqu Then let them ascend فِي fi by ٱلۡأَسۡبَٰبِ al-asbabi the means ١٠
am lahum mul'ku al-samawati wal-ardi wama baynahuma falyartaqu fi al-asbabi
— Transliteration
Or is it that the dominion of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them is theirs? If so, let them ascend up with means (to the heavens)
