14:1
الٓرۚ alif-lam-ra Alif Laam Ra كِتَٰبٌ kitabun A Book أَنزَلۡنَٰهُ anzalnahu which We have revealed إِلَيۡكَ ilayka to you لِتُخۡرِجَ litukh'rija so that you may bring out ٱلنَّاسَ al-nasa the mankind مِنَ mina from ٱلظُّلُمَٰتِ al-zulumati the darkness[es] إِلَى ila to ٱلنُّورِ al-nuri the light بِإِذۡنِ bi-idh'ni by the permission رَبِّهِمۡ rabbihim (of) their Lord إِلَىٰ ila to صِرَٰطِ sirati the Path ٱلۡعَزِيزِ al-'azizi (of) the AllMighty ٱلۡحَمِيدِ al-hamidi the Praiseworthy ١
alif-lam-ra kitabun anzalnahu ilayka litukh'rija al-nasa mina al-zulumati ila al-nuri bi-idh'ni rabbihim ila sirati al-'azizi al-hamidi
— Transliteration
Alif-Lam-Ra. [These letters are one of the miracles of the Quran, and none but Allah (Alone) knows their meanings]. (This is) a Book which We have revealed unto you (O Muhammad SAW) in order that you might lead mankind out of darkness (of disbelief and polytheism) into light (of belief in the Oneness of Allah and Islamic Monotheism) by their Lord's Leave to the Path of the All-Mighty, the Owner of all Praise

14:2
ٱللَّهِ al-lahi Allah ٱلَّذِي alladhi (is) the One لَهُۥ lahu to Him (belongs) مَا ma whatever فِي fi (is) in ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ al-samawati the heavens وَمَا wama and whatever فِي fi (is) in ٱلۡأَرۡضِۗ al-ardi the earth وَوَيۡلٞ wawaylun And woe لِّلۡكَٰفِرِينَ lil'kafirina to the disbelievers مِنۡ min from عَذَابٖ adhabin the punishment شَدِيدٍ shadidin severe ٢
al-lahi alladhi lahu ma fi al-samawati wama fi al-ardi wawaylun lil'kafirina min adhabin shadidin
— Transliteration
Allah to Whom belongs all that is in the heavens and all that is in the earth! And woe unto the disbelievers from a severe torment

14:3
ٱلَّذِينَ alladhina Those who يَسۡتَحِبُّونَ yastahibbuna love more ٱلۡحَيَوٰةَ al-hayata the life ٱلدُّنۡيَا al-dun'ya (of) the world عَلَى ala than ٱلۡأٓخِرَةِ al-akhirati the Hereafter وَيَصُدُّونَ wayasudduna and hinder عَن an from سَبِيلِ sabili (the) Path ٱللَّهِ al-lahi (of) Allah وَيَبۡغُونَهَا wayabghunaha and seek in it عِوَجًاۚ iwajan crookedness أُوْلَٰٓئِكَ ulaika those فِي fi [in] ضَلَٰلِۭ dalalin (are) far astray بَعِيدٖ ba'idin (are) far astray ٣
alladhina yastahibbuna al-hayata al-dun'ya ala al-akhirati wayasudduna an sabili al-lahi wayabghunaha iwajan ulaika fi dalalin ba'idin
— Transliteration
Those who prefer the life of this world instead of the Hereafter, and hinder (men) from the Path of Allah (i.e. Islam) and seek crookedness therein - They are far astray

14:4
وَمَآ wama And not أَرۡسَلۡنَا arsalna We sent مِن min any رَّسُولٍ rasulin Messenger إِلَّا illa except بِلِسَانِ bilisani with the language قَوۡمِهِۦ qawmihi (of) his people لِيُبَيِّنَ liyubayyina so that he might make clear لَهُمۡۖ lahum for them فَيُضِلُّ fayudillu Then Allah lets go astray ٱللَّهُ al-lahu Then Allah lets go astray مَن man whom يَشَآءُ yashau He wills وَيَهۡدِي wayahdi and guides مَن man whom يَشَآءُۚ yashau He wills وَهُوَ wahuwa And He ٱلۡعَزِيزُ al-'azizu (is) the AllMighty ٱلۡحَكِيمُ al-hakimu the AllWise ٤
wama arsalna min rasulin illa bilisani qawmihi liyubayyina lahum fayudillu al-lahu man yashau wayahdi man yashau wahuwa al-'azizu al-hakimu
— Transliteration
And We sent not a Messenger except with the language of his people, in order that he might make (the Message) clear for them. Then Allah misleads whom He wills and guides whom He wills. And He is the All-Mighty, the All-Wise

14:5
وَلَقَدۡ walaqad And verily أَرۡسَلۡنَا arsalna We sent مُوسَىٰ musa Musa بِـَٔايَٰتِنَآ biayatina with Our Signs أَنۡ an that أَخۡرِجۡ akhrij Bring out قَوۡمَكَ qawmaka your people مِنَ mina from ٱلظُّلُمَٰتِ al-zulumati the darkness[es] إِلَى ila to ٱلنُّورِ al-nuri the light وَذَكِّرۡهُم wadhakkir'hum And remind them بِأَيَّىٰمِ bi-ayyami of the days ٱللَّهِۚ al-lahi (of) Allah إِنَّ inna Indeed فِي fi in ذَٰلِكَ dhalika that لَأٓيَٰتٖ laayatin surely (are) the signs لِّكُلِّ likulli for everyone صَبَّارٖ sabbarin patient شَكُورٖ shakurin and thankful ٥
walaqad arsalna musa biayatina an akhrij qawmaka mina al-zulumati ila al-nuri wadhakkir'hum bi-ayyami al-lahi inna fi dhalika laayatin likulli sabbarin shakurin
— Transliteration
And indeed We sent Musa (Moses) with Our Ayat (signs, proofs, and evidences) (saying): "Bring out your people from darkness into light, and make them remember the annals of Allah. Truly, therein are evidences, proofs and signs for every patient, thankful (person)

14:6
وَإِذۡ wa-idh And when قَالَ qala said مُوسَىٰ musa Musa لِقَوۡمِهِ liqawmihi to his people ٱذۡكُرُواْ udh'kuru Remember نِعۡمَةَ ni'mata (the) Favor of Allah ٱللَّهِ al-lahi (the) Favor of Allah عَلَيۡكُمۡ alaykum upon you إِذۡ idh when أَنجَىٰكُم anjakum He saved you مِّنۡ min from ءَالِ ali (the) people فِرۡعَوۡنَ fir'awna (of) Firaun يَسُومُونَكُمۡ yasumunakum they were afflicting you سُوٓءَ sua (with) evil ٱلۡعَذَابِ al-'adhabi torment وَيُذَبِّحُونَ wayudhabbihuna and were slaughtering أَبۡنَآءَكُمۡ abnaakum your sons وَيَسۡتَحۡيُونَ wayastahyuna and letting live نِسَآءَكُمۡۚ nisaakum your women وَفِي wafi And in ذَٰلِكُم dhalikum that بَلَآءٞ balaon (was) a trial مِّن min from رَّبِّكُمۡ rabbikum your Lord عَظِيمٞ azimun great ٦
wa-idh qala musa liqawmihi udh'kuru ni'mata al-lahi alaykum idh anjakum min ali fir'awna yasumunakum sua al-'adhabi wayudhabbihuna abnaakum wayastahyuna nisaakum wafi dhalikum balaon min rabbikum azimun
— Transliteration
And (remember) when Musa (Moses) said to his people: "Call to mind Allah's Favour to you, when He delivered you from Fir'aun's (Pharaoh) people who were afflicting you with horrible torment, and were slaughtering your sons and letting your women alive, and in it was a tremendous trial from your Lord

14:7
وَإِذۡ wa-idh And when تَأَذَّنَ ta-adhana proclaimed رَبُّكُمۡ rabbukum your Lord لَئِن la-in If شَكَرۡتُمۡ shakartum you are thankful لَأَزِيدَنَّكُمۡۖ la-azidannakum surely I will increase you وَلَئِن wala-in but if كَفَرۡتُمۡ kafartum you are ungrateful إِنَّ inna indeed عَذَابِي adhabi My punishment لَشَدِيدٞ lashadidun (is) surely severe ٧
wa-idh ta-adhana rabbukum la-in shakartum la-azidannakum wala-in kafartum inna adhabi lashadidun
— Transliteration
And (remember) when your Lord proclaimed: "If you give thanks (by accepting Faith and worshipping none but Allah), I will give you more (of My Blessings), but if you are thankless (i.e. disbelievers), verily! My Punishment is indeed severe

14:8
وَقَالَ waqala And said مُوسَىٰٓ musa Musa إِن in If تَكۡفُرُوٓاْ takfuru you disbelieve أَنتُمۡ antum you وَمَن waman and whoever فِي fi (is) in ٱلۡأَرۡضِ al-ardi the earth جَمِيعٗا jami'an all فَإِنَّ fa-inna then indeed ٱللَّهَ al-laha Allah لَغَنِيٌّ laghaniyyun certainly (is) Free of need حَمِيدٌ hamidun Praiseworthy ٨
waqala musa in takfuru antum waman fi al-ardi jami'an fa-inna al-laha laghaniyyun hamidun
— Transliteration
And Musa (Moses) said: "If you disbelieve, you and all on earth together, then verily! Allah is Rich (Free of all wants), Owner of all Praise

14:9
أَلَمۡ alam Has not يَأۡتِكُمۡ yatikum come to you نَبَؤُاْ naba-u (the) news ٱلَّذِينَ alladhina (of) those who مِن min (were) before you قَبۡلِكُمۡ qablikum (were) before you قَوۡمِ qawmi the people نُوحٖ nuhin of Nuh وَعَادٖ wa'adin and Aad وَثَمُودَ wathamuda and Thamud وَٱلَّذِينَ wa-alladhina and those who مِنۢ min (were) after them? بَعۡدِهِمۡ ba'dihim (were) after them? لَا la None يَعۡلَمُهُمۡ ya'lamuhum knows them إِلَّا illa except ٱللَّهُۚ al-lahu Allah جَآءَتۡهُمۡ jaathum Came to them رُسُلُهُم rusuluhum their Messengers بِٱلۡبَيِّنَٰتِ bil-bayinati with clear proofs فَرَدُّوٓاْ faraddu but they returned أَيۡدِيَهُمۡ aydiyahum their hands فِيٓ fi in أَفۡوَٰهِهِمۡ afwahihim their mouths وَقَالُوٓاْ waqalu and they said إِنَّا inna Indeed we كَفَرۡنَا kafarna [we] disbelieve بِمَآ bima in what أُرۡسِلۡتُم ur'sil'tum you have been sent بِهِۦ bihi with [it] وَإِنَّا wa-inna and indeed we لَفِي lafi (are) surely in شَكّٖ shakkin doubt مِّمَّا mimma about what تَدۡعُونَنَآ tad'unana you invite us إِلَيۡهِ ilayhi to it مُرِيبٖ muribin suspicious ٩
alam yatikum naba-u alladhina min qablikum qawmi nuhin wa'adin wathamuda wa-alladhina min ba'dihim la ya'lamuhum illa al-lahu jaathum rusuluhum bil-bayinati faraddu aydiyahum fi afwahihim waqalu inna kafarna bima ur'sil'tum bihi wa-inna lafi shakkin mimma tad'unana ilayhi muribin
— Transliteration
Has not the news reached you, of those before you, the people of Nuh (Noah), and 'Ad, and Thamud? And those after them? None knows them but Allah. To them came their Messengers with clear proofs, but they put their hands in their mouths (biting them from anger) and said: "Verily, we disbelieve in that with which you have been sent, and we are really in grave doubt as to that to which you invite us (i.e. Islamic Monotheism)

14:10
۞قَالَتۡ qalat Said رُسُلُهُمۡ rusuluhum their Messengers أَفِي afi Can (there) be about ٱللَّهِ al-lahi Allah شَكّٞ shakkun any doubt فَاطِرِ fatiri (the) Creator ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ al-samawati (of) the heavens وَٱلۡأَرۡضِۖ wal-ardi and the earth? يَدۡعُوكُمۡ yad'ukum He invites you لِيَغۡفِرَ liyaghfira so that He may forgive لَكُم lakum for you مِّن min [of] ذُنُوبِكُمۡ dhunubikum your sins وَيُؤَخِّرَكُمۡ wayu-akhirakum and give you respite إِلَىٰٓ ila for أَجَلٖ ajalin a term مُّسَمّٗىۚ musamman appointed قَالُوٓاْ qalu They said إِنۡ in Not أَنتُمۡ antum you إِلَّا illa (are) but بَشَرٞ basharun a human مِّثۡلُنَا mith'luna like us تُرِيدُونَ turiduna you wish أَن an to تَصُدُّونَا tasudduna hinder us عَمَّا amma from what كَانَ kana used to يَعۡبُدُ ya'budu worship ءَابَآؤُنَا abauna our forefathers فَأۡتُونَا fatuna So bring us بِسُلۡطَٰنٖ bisul'tanin an authority مُّبِينٖ mubinin clear ١٠
qalat rusuluhum afi al-lahi shakkun fatiri al-samawati wal-ardi yad'ukum liyaghfira lakum min dhunubikum wayu-akhirakum ila ajalin musamman qalu in antum illa basharun mith'luna turiduna an tasudduna amma kana ya'budu abauna fatuna bisul'tanin mubinin
— Transliteration
Their Messengers said: "What! Can there be a doubt about Allah, the Creator of the heavens and the earth? He calls you (to Monotheism and to be obedient to Allah) that He may forgive you of your sins and give you respite for a term appointed." They said: "You are no more than human beings like us! You wish to turn us away from what our fathers used to worship. Then bring us a clear authority i.e. a clear proof of what you say
