17:1
سُبۡحَٰنَ sub'hana Exalted ٱلَّذِيٓ alladhi (is) the One Who أَسۡرَىٰ asra took بِعَبۡدِهِۦ bi'abdihi His servant لَيۡلٗا laylan (by) night مِّنَ mina from ٱلۡمَسۡجِدِ al-masjidi AlMasjid AlHaraam ٱلۡحَرَامِ al-harami AlMasjid AlHaraam إِلَى ila to ٱلۡمَسۡجِدِ al-masjidi AlMasjid AlAqsa ٱلۡأَقۡصَا al-aqsa AlMasjid AlAqsa ٱلَّذِي alladhi which بَٰرَكۡنَا barakna We blessed حَوۡلَهُۥ hawlahu its surroundings لِنُرِيَهُۥ linuriyahu that We may show him مِنۡ min of ءَايَٰتِنَآۚ ayatina Our Signs إِنَّهُۥ innahu Indeed He هُوَ huwa He ٱلسَّمِيعُ al-sami'u (is) the AllHearer ٱلۡبَصِيرُ al-basiru the AllSeer ١
sub'hana alladhi asra bi'abdihi laylan mina al-masjidi al-harami ila al-masjidi al-aqsa alladhi barakna hawlahu linuriyahu min ayatina innahu huwa al-sami'u al-basiru
— Transliteration
Glorified (and Exalted) be He (Allah) [above all that (evil) they associate with Him] [Tafsir Qurtubi, Vol. 10, Page 204] Who took His slave (Muhammad SAW) for a journey by night from Al-Masjid-al-Haram (at Makkah) to the farthest mosque (in Jerusalem), the neighborhood whereof We have blessed, in order that We might show him (Muhammad SAW) of Our Ayat (proofs, evidences, lessons, signs, etc.). Verily, He is the All-Hearer, the All-Seer

17:2
وَءَاتَيۡنَا waatayna And We gave مُوسَى musa Musa ٱلۡكِتَٰبَ al-kitaba the Book وَجَعَلۡنَٰهُ waja'alnahu and made it هُدٗى hudan a guidance لِّبَنِيٓ libani for the Children إِسۡرَٰٓءِيلَ is'raila (of) Israel أَلَّا alla That not تَتَّخِذُواْ tattakhidhu you take مِن min other than Me دُونِي duni other than Me وَكِيلٗا wakilan (as) a Disposer of affairs ٢
waatayna musa al-kitaba waja'alnahu hudan libani is'raila alla tattakhidhu min duni wakilan
— Transliteration
And We gave Musa (Moses) the Scripture and made it a guidance for the Children of Israel (saying): "Take not other than Me as (your) Wakil (Protector, Lord, or Disposer of your affairs, etc)

17:3
ذُرِّيَّةَ dhurriyyata Offsprings مَنۡ man (of one) who حَمَلۡنَا hamalna We carried مَعَ ma'a with نُوحٍۚ nuhin Nuh إِنَّهُۥ innahu Indeed he كَانَ kana was عَبۡدٗا abdan a servant شَكُورٗا shakuran grateful ٣
dhurriyyata man hamalna ma'a nuhin innahu kana abdan shakuran
— Transliteration
O offspring of those whom We carried (in the ship) with Nuh (Noah)! Verily, he was a grateful slave

17:4
وَقَضَيۡنَآ waqadayna And We decreed إِلَىٰ ila for بَنِيٓ bani (the) Children إِسۡرَٰٓءِيلَ is'raila (of) Israel فِي fi in ٱلۡكِتَٰبِ al-kitabi the Book لَتُفۡسِدُنَّ latuf'sidunna Surely you will cause corruption فِي fi in ٱلۡأَرۡضِ al-ardi the earth مَرَّتَيۡنِ marratayni twice وَلَتَعۡلُنَّ walata'lunna and surely you will reach عُلُوّٗا uluwwan haughtiness كَبِيرٗا kabiran great ٤
waqadayna ila bani is'raila fi al-kitabi latuf'sidunna fi al-ardi marratayni walata'lunna uluwwan kabiran
— Transliteration
And We decreed for the Children of Israel in the Scripture, that indeed you would do mischief on the earth twice and you will become tyrants and extremely arrogant

17:5
فَإِذَا fa-idha So when جَآءَ jaa came وَعۡدُ wa'du (the) promise أُولَىٰهُمَا ulahuma (for) the first of the two بَعَثۡنَا ba'athna We raised عَلَيۡكُمۡ alaykum against you عِبَادٗا ibadan servants لَّنَآ lana of Ours أُوْلِي uli those of great military might بَأۡسٖ basin those of great military might شَدِيدٖ shadidin those of great military might فَجَاسُواْ fajasu and they entered خِلَٰلَ khilala the inner most part ٱلدِّيَارِۚ al-diyari (of) the homes وَكَانَ wakana and (it) was وَعۡدٗا wa'dan a promise مَّفۡعُولٗا maf'ulan fulfilled ٥
fa-idha jaa wa'du ulahuma ba'athna alaykum ibadan lana uli basin shadidin fajasu khilala al-diyari wakana wa'dan maf'ulan
— Transliteration
So, when the promise came for the first of the two, We sent against you slaves of Ours given to terrible warfare. They entered the very innermost parts of your homes. And it was a promise (completely) fulfilled

17:6
ثُمَّ thumma Then رَدَدۡنَا radadna We gave back لَكُمُ lakumu to you ٱلۡكَرَّةَ al-karata the return victory عَلَيۡهِمۡ alayhim over them وَأَمۡدَدۡنَٰكُم wa-amdadnakum And We reinforced you بِأَمۡوَٰلٖ bi-amwalin with the wealth وَبَنِينَ wabanina and sons وَجَعَلۡنَٰكُمۡ waja'alnakum and made you أَكۡثَرَ akthara more نَفِيرًا nafiran numerous ٦
thumma radadna lakumu al-karata alayhim wa-amdadnakum bi-amwalin wabanina waja'alnakum akthara nafiran
— Transliteration
Then We gave you once again, a return of victory over them. And We helped you with wealth and children and made you more numerous in man power

17:7
إِنۡ in If أَحۡسَنتُمۡ ahsantum you do good أَحۡسَنتُمۡ ahsantum you do good لِأَنفُسِكُمۡۖ li-anfusikum for yourselves وَإِنۡ wa-in and if أَسَأۡتُمۡ asatum you do evil فَلَهَاۚ falaha then it is for it فَإِذَا fa-idha So when جَآءَ jaa came وَعۡدُ wa'du promise ٱلۡأٓخِرَةِ al-akhirati the last لِيَسُـُٔواْ liyasuu to sadden وُجُوهَكُمۡ wujuhakum your faces وَلِيَدۡخُلُواْ waliyadkhulu and to enter ٱلۡمَسۡجِدَ al-masjida the Masjid كَمَا kama just as دَخَلُوهُ dakhaluhu they (had) entered it أَوَّلَ awwala first مَرَّةٖ marratin time وَلِيُتَبِّرُواْ waliyutabbiru and to destroy مَا ma what عَلَوۡاْ alaw they had conquered تَتۡبِيرًا tatbiran (with) destruction ٧
in ahsantum ahsantum li-anfusikum wa-in asatum falaha fa-idha jaa wa'du al-akhirati liyasuu wujuhakum waliyadkhulu al-masjida kama dakhaluhu awwala marratin waliyutabbiru ma alaw tatbiran
— Transliteration
(And We said): "If you do good, you do good for your ownselves, and if you do evil (you do it) against yourselves." Then, when the second promise came to pass, (We permitted your enemies) to make your faces sorrowful and to enter the mosque (of Jerusalem) as they had entered it before, and to destroy with utter destruction all that fell in their hands

17:8
عَسَىٰ asa (It) may be رَبُّكُمۡ rabbukum that your Lord أَن an that your Lord يَرۡحَمَكُمۡۚ yarhamakum (may) have mercy upon you وَإِنۡ wa-in But if عُدتُّمۡ udttum you return عُدۡنَاۚ ud'na We will return وَجَعَلۡنَا waja'alna And We have made جَهَنَّمَ jahannama Hell لِلۡكَٰفِرِينَ lil'kafirina for the disbelievers حَصِيرًا hasiran a prisonbed ٨
asa rabbukum an yarhamakum wa-in udttum ud'na waja'alna jahannama lil'kafirina hasiran
— Transliteration
And We said in the Taurat (Torah)]: "It may be that your Lord may show mercy unto you, but if you return (to sins), We shall return (to Our Punishment). And We have made Hell a prison for the disbelievers

17:9
إِنَّ inna Indeed هَٰذَا hadha this ٱلۡقُرۡءَانَ al-qur'ana the Quran يَهۡدِي yahdi guides لِلَّتِي lillati to that هِيَ hiya which أَقۡوَمُ aqwamu (is) most straight وَيُبَشِّرُ wayubashiru and gives glad tidings ٱلۡمُؤۡمِنِينَ al-mu'minina to the believers ٱلَّذِينَ alladhina those who يَعۡمَلُونَ ya'maluna do ٱلصَّٰلِحَٰتِ al-salihati the righteous deeds أَنَّ anna that لَهُمۡ lahum for them أَجۡرٗا ajran (is) a reward كَبِيرٗا kabiran great ٩
inna hadha al-qur'ana yahdi lillati hiya aqwamu wayubashiru al-mu'minina alladhina ya'maluna al-salihati anna lahum ajran kabiran
— Transliteration
Verily, this Quran guides to that which is most just and right and gives glad tidings to the believers (in the Oneness of Allah and His Messenger, Muhammad SAW, etc.). who work deeds of righteousness, that they shall have a great reward (Paradise)

17:10
وَأَنَّ wa-anna And that ٱلَّذِينَ alladhina those who لَا la (do) not يُؤۡمِنُونَ yu'minuna believe بِٱلۡأٓخِرَةِ bil-akhirati in the Hereafter أَعۡتَدۡنَا a'tadna We have prepared لَهُمۡ lahum for them عَذَابًا adhaban a punishment أَلِيمٗا aliman painful ١٠
wa-anna alladhina la yu'minuna bil-akhirati a'tadna lahum adhaban aliman
— Transliteration
And that those who believe not in the Hereafter (i.e. they disbelieve that they will be recompensed for what they did in this world, good or bad, etc.), for them We have prepared a painful torment (Hell)
