الٓمٓ alif-lam-meem Alif Laam Meem ١

— Transliteration
Alif-Lam-Mim. [These letters are one of the miracles of the Quran and none but Allah (Alone) knows their meanings

2:2
ذَٰلِكَ dhalika That ٱلۡكِتَٰبُ al-kitabu (is) the book لَا la no رَيۡبَۛ rayba doubt فِيهِۛ fihi in it هُدٗى hudan a Guidance لِّلۡمُتَّقِينَ lil'muttaqina for the Godconscious ٢
dhalika al-kitabu la rayba fihi hudan lil'muttaqina
— Transliteration
This is the Book (the Quran), whereof there is no doubt, a guidance to those who are Al-Muttaqun [the pious and righteous persons who fear Allah much (abstain from all kinds of sins and evil deeds which He has forbidden) and love Allah much (perform all kinds of good deeds which He has ordained)

2:3
ٱلَّذِينَ alladhina Those who يُؤۡمِنُونَ yu'minuna believe بِٱلۡغَيۡبِ bil-ghaybi in the unseen وَيُقِيمُونَ wayuqimuna and establish ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ al-salata the prayer وَمِمَّا wamimma and out of what رَزَقۡنَٰهُمۡ razaqnahum We have provided them يُنفِقُونَ yunfiquna they spend ٣
alladhina yu'minuna bil-ghaybi wayuqimuna al-salata wamimma razaqnahum yunfiquna
— Transliteration
Who believe in the Ghaib and perform As-Salat (Iqamat-as-Salat), and spend out of what we have provided for them [i.e. give Zakat, spend on themselves, their parents, their children, their wives, etc., and also give charity to the poor and also in Allah's Cause - Jihad, etc]

2:4
وَٱلَّذِينَ wa-alladhina And those who يُؤۡمِنُونَ yu'minuna believe بِمَآ bima in what أُنزِلَ unzila (is) sent down إِلَيۡكَ ilayka to you وَمَآ wama and what أُنزِلَ unzila was sent down مِن min from قَبۡلِكَ qablika before you وَبِٱلۡأٓخِرَةِ wabil-akhirati and in the Hereafter هُمۡ hum they يُوقِنُونَ yuqinuna firmly believe ٤
wa-alladhina yu'minuna bima unzila ilayka wama unzila min qablika wabil-akhirati hum yuqinuna
— Transliteration
And who believe in (the Quran and the Sunnah) which has been sent down (revealed) to you (Muhammad Peace be upon him) and in [the Taurat (Torah) and the Injeel (Gospel), etc.] which were sent down before you and they believe with certainty in the Hereafter. (Resurrection, recompense of their good and bad deeds, Paradise and Hell, etc)

2:5
أُوْلَٰٓئِكَ ulaika Those عَلَىٰ ala (are) on هُدٗى hudan Guidance مِّن min from رَّبِّهِمۡۖ rabbihim their Lord وَأُوْلَٰٓئِكَ wa-ulaika and those هُمُ humu they ٱلۡمُفۡلِحُونَ al-muf'lihuna (are) the successful ones ٥
ulaika ala hudan min rabbihim wa-ulaika humu al-muf'lihuna
— Transliteration
They are on (true) guidance from their Lord, and they are the successful

2:6
إِنَّ inna Indeed ٱلَّذِينَ alladhina those who كَفَرُواْ kafaru disbelieve[d] سَوَآءٌ sawaon (it) is same عَلَيۡهِمۡ alayhim to them ءَأَنذَرۡتَهُمۡ a-andhartahum whether you warn them أَمۡ am or لَمۡ lam not تُنذِرۡهُمۡ tundhir'hum you warn them لَا la not يُؤۡمِنُونَ yu'minuna they believe ٦
inna alladhina kafaru sawaon alayhim a-andhartahum am lam tundhir'hum la yu'minuna
— Transliteration
Verily, those who disbelieve, it is the same to them whether you (O Muhammad Peace be upon him) warn them or do not warn them, they will not believe

2:7
خَتَمَ khatama Has set a seal ٱللَّهُ al-lahu Allah عَلَىٰ ala on قُلُوبِهِمۡ qulubihim their hearts وَعَلَىٰ wa'ala and on سَمۡعِهِمۡۖ sam'ihim their hearing وَعَلَىٰٓ wa'ala and on أَبۡصَٰرِهِمۡ absarihim their vision غِشَٰوَةٞۖ ghishawatun (is) a veil وَلَهُمۡ walahum And for them عَذَابٌ adhabun (is) a punishment عَظِيمٞ azimun great ٧
khatama al-lahu ala qulubihim wa'ala sam'ihim wa'ala absarihim ghishawatun walahum adhabun azimun
— Transliteration
Allah has set a seal on their hearts and on their hearings, (i.e. they are closed from accepting Allah's Guidance), and on their eyes there is a covering. Theirs will be a great torment

2:8
وَمِنَ wamina And of ٱلنَّاسِ al-nasi the people مَن man (are some) who يَقُولُ yaqulu say ءَامَنَّا amanna We believed بِٱللَّهِ bil-lahi in Allah وَبِٱلۡيَوۡمِ wabil-yawmi and in the Day ٱلۡأٓخِرِ al-akhiri [the] Last وَمَا wama but not هُم hum they بِمُؤۡمِنِينَ bimu'minina (are) believers (at all) ٨
wamina al-nasi man yaqulu amanna bil-lahi wabil-yawmi al-akhiri wama hum bimu'minina
— Transliteration
And of mankind, there are some (hypocrites) who say: "We believe in Allah and the Last Day" while in fact they believe not

2:9
يُخَٰدِعُونَ yukhadi'una They seek to deceive ٱللَّهَ al-laha Allah وَٱلَّذِينَ wa-alladhina and those who ءَامَنُواْ amanu believe[d] وَمَا wama and not يَخۡدَعُونَ yakhda'una they deceive إِلَّآ illa except أَنفُسَهُمۡ anfusahum themselves وَمَا wama and not يَشۡعُرُونَ yash'uruna they realize (it) ٩
yukhadi'una al-laha wa-alladhina amanu wama yakhda'una illa anfusahum wama yash'uruna
— Transliteration
They (think to) deceive Allah and those who believe, while they only deceive themselves, and perceive (it) not

2:10
فِي fi In قُلُوبِهِم qulubihim their hearts مَّرَضٞ maradun (is) a disease فَزَادَهُمُ fazadahumu so has increased them ٱللَّهُ al-lahu Allah مَرَضٗاۖ maradan (in) disease وَلَهُمۡ walahum and for them عَذَابٌ adhabun (is) a punishment أَلِيمُۢ alimun painful بِمَا bima because كَانُواْ kanu they used to يَكۡذِبُونَ yakdhibuna [they] lie ١٠
fi qulubihim maradun fazadahumu al-lahu maradan walahum adhabun alimun bima kanu yakdhibuna
— Transliteration
In their hearts is a disease (of doubt and hypocrisy) and Allah has increased their disease. A painful torment is theirs because they used to tell lies
